Attended this restaurant last minute and without a booking. Staff were able to accommodate us even though they were booked out, with a small round table in front of the coffee machine and counter. Picture indicates how busy it was at the time. Decor and ambience of the restaurant were very nice. Music was playing in the background. Meals on the menu were ample and the ingredients of each sufficient. Ample time was given for us to decide on what we wanted to order and time taken for our meals to arrive reasonable. Food served was authentic and very tasty. The seafood dish I had, had partially shelled prawns in it however I wasn't given a bowl for the shell waste. Reason this restaurant wasn't given 5 stars was due to the staff not being as friendly as I expected they should. Of course this was my personal opinion as all reviews are and there may have been a reason for this. I would give this restaurant a second try as the food and ambience were great. We had 2 main meals with a glass of red and a beer. Bill total was $69. Thought meals were slightly overpriced given it was Vietnamese food. Drink prices appeared to be normal.
Worst Massaman Beef and Coconut Rice I have ever had. They put a whole heap of vegetables in so they don't have to put much beef in it. Tasted too sweet and wasn't authentic enough for me. The coconut rice was not coconut rice. I've had coconut rice cooked properly and it is beautiful. They think that steamed jasmine rice with coconut cream poured on top is coconut rice. It was disgusting, who does this! Never ever going back there again and would not recommend going to Chumanchu if you want Vietnamese/Thai cuisine.
#halal suitable We just turned-up to this place to satisfy our Vietnamese cravings and gald we did. First of all, the service is top notch. The food is yum. We ordered egg plant, dumplings and pad thai. Portions are big and they serve halal suitable. Look no further if you are into authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
Comfy place with a very kind aunty and staffs. Plenty of Asian foods served in a big portion and ofcourse it's yummyyum
First time to have dine in at Chumanchu…By far the best Wagyu beef pho soup ever ! We enjoyed the soup and best are the Banana Fritters and Dates pudding! Needs to make a booking do avoid disappointment… but I called an hour before we went and still got a table… the waitresses are so kind. I think the owner was there too watching his costumers enjoy their meals!!!
The food here was really good. We had several appetizers before or dish including a variety of the rolls. Everything tasted amazing.Food: 5/5
Was served lamb that was sour and tasted rotten. Had 2 bites just to make sure it wasn’t just my pallet confusing me. Was very hungry after watching my family finish their meals which they enjoyed my mother and sister tasted the lamb I was served too and were disgusted. Before going to fix up the bill, I needed to use the toilet, and on the way nearly slipped over due to them mopping the floor without a visible ‘wet floor’ sign. And mentioned that my elderly parents could have slipped over if it was them walking to the bathroom instead. I mentioned this to the staff and was met with an insincere sorry followed by profanity and swearing towards me under their breath. I was extremely shocked at how unprofessional their conduct was. I complained to the lady at the register about the lamb, she spoke to the chef who assured me it was because it is cooked using fish sauce. This is the 3rd time I have eaten the broken rice at this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it the other 2 times. The food was rotten this time and I enjoy the taste of fish sauce normally. I told them that I refused to pay for my meal which was completely inedible while pointing out that I barely touched the dish. They said that I couldn’t get a refund. They wouldn’t refund me for that meal until I threatened to not pay for my entire family’s bill. I said that everything else served to us was great. After coming to an agreement with staff to pay minus my meal I started walking out and the kitchen staff were sarcastically saying sorry repetitively. My silent response was met with a deeply patronising and deliberately aggitating “no worries” Their immature and unprofessional conduct was a disgrace. Their inability to admit to serving me unfresh food is disgusting. This is on top of the issue I chose to overlook of the service being painstakingly slow. I am actively warning all of my friends and family to never visit this restaurant Great job guys!
First impressions were great. Great quality Asian inspired quisine. Good wine selection. I had the pad Thai, which was excellent and authentic. The salt and pepper squid was also superb and so very tender. I look forward to returning and trying more dishes.
This review is coming from a Vietnamese perspective: It's not entirely Vietnamese because on the menu it featured Nasi Goreng and Mee Goreng which is actually Malaysian. But the Vietnamese food I had was quite authentic. I highly recommend the "Banh xeo" dish. It was delicious and flavoursome and thumbs up to the nuoc mam sauce too. Although, I am used to more lettuce and greens to go with banh xeo normally so I was disappointed to see there was lack of it. But I'm sure if you request more, they'd be happy to. I also recommend salt and pepper squid and Vietnamese Coleslaw salad - "goi". I was a bit surprised that they offered us forks to begin with. I would have expected chopsticks at least. The environment was family and couple orientated and I really liked the decor. I'm yet to try more of the menu but I'd stick to the traditional Vietnamese dishes. Wagyu beef pho was a very generous serving and the broth was fresh. Highly recommend
Great menu of Vietnamese and Thai food. Combination of small and big plates to share or eat individually.
