China Doll is a classy and impressive restaurant serving what is sometimes called “pan asian cuisine”. It is not straight Chinese. The chef borrows from many asian traditions.nnI was there as part of a group of twelve for a family celebration. Contrary to some of the negative reviews complaining about poor service, the service we received from beginning to end was faultless and attentive. A waiter introduced himself as Thomas according to me memory. He stayed with us all the way through, dealing with the special requests by some of my family group with patience and efficiency.nnWe ordered as set menu at $95 per head. The menu for this banquet was interesting, varied and served in a sequence that made for surprises appearing all the way through. I tried to keep up with photographing and recording everything but got so immersed in enjoying the food I lost focus.nnTwo of our group had very specific dietary needs. The restaurant honoured those requests and provided excellent alternatives.nnThe lunch was over a three hour window. Everything was well paced. We left very well fed indeed. The portions were generous and beautifully plated.nnThe photographs with this review show you some of the dishes - see the captions. A special mention for the tea smoke duck.nnThe Finger Wharf is a spectacular location - perfect on a gorgeous day. It is obviously successful and popular. The restaurant was full yet the noise level was low enough to have conversation and the service did not slow down.nnI will return with just my wife and I so we can have a long lunch and sample some cocktails.
Came here last friday for team dinner.nFood were delicious & amazing! Nothing fails for me.nnIf you coming in group highly Recommended to get set menu! Worth price & portion all well enough.nnOur favourite will ben• salmon sashimi w/blackened chili dressingnIt was super fresh & refreshing!nn• pork & peanut san choy baunThe wok hey or smokey flavour really on point. Wrapped in lettuce wow super crunchy and mind blowing.nn• duck pancakes w hoisin cucumber & white leeks: SUPER RECOMMEND! The duck itself are super juicy & really enjoy the experience where you wrap + mix match your own duck pancakes. Amount and size of the duck also very generous! Well donenn• Drunken Chicken w/ rice wine sauce & ginger shallots: it doesnt look appealing at first, but when you have a bite… everything just changes! Chicken are super tender & juicy! Rice wine vinegar are just perfect ratio. Not too salty & not too sweet.nnOverall foods are really good! as i said before, nothing dissapointing!nnJust service need to be improved little bit.nThey have lot of waiters/ runners around but none of them really pay attention to customers. Really hard to get attention. We try to be nice by not raising our hands while calling for help but just really hard!nnThank you
A great ‘long’ lunch of exquisite Asian fusion food with good friends, and with a ‘room with a view’ made this a perfect luncheon outing. The food was delicious, with all dishes made GF. From the scallops to the chilli salt squid to the BBQ pork and prawn fried rice and everything in between, all were fantastic. Throw in the SA Pino Gris and this just completed an awesome lunch. Highly recommended!
The food was very nicenThe service was very poor. They take on too many patrons and squueze you in so tightly.nWe waited so long for our food, an hour & half for our entree and it was not bought out together so our party was eating separately.Same applied with our mains.nThe waiter was rude and obviously could not handle the coverage. When one of our party offered him a tip, he snatched it out if her hand and put it in his pocket.nI will not be recommending this restaurant to others and will not be returning.
Was excited to try this restaurant out tonight, but was underwhelmed by our visit. It was out of the way from our work/home but we still went and tried it on a weekday night to celebrate my mom’s birthday. We ordered the lobster noodles & alaskan king crabs. The former was good, but the king crabs were so disappointing. It might have been overcooked as the meat were sticking so much to the shell, unlike others we’ve tried before in other restaurants. We probably spent a good 10 mins per piece trying to pry the meat out and even tried to use our hands but it was still hard work. We tried to ask them if that how it was supposed to be, but the 2 guys we talked to were condescending and dismissive My partner and I have been trying out different restaurants listed in AGFG but this has to be the worst experience we’ve ever encountered. I agree with the other Google reviews that couples seem to experience worse service than bigger groups. The view is nice but the lighting on the tables could be improved a little. Wish we went to a different restaurant instead to celebrate the tonight
