Story

Chez Maurice et Linda The classic French Restaurant has over 30 years of great success. It was created by one of the top chefs in Australia. Maurice Magneron, he came from Bordeaux and worked for some of the best restaurants for many years such as a commis chef in the hotel Ritz in Paris and the Nytenegger in Switzerland. Executive chef at L’Ancien Rustique in Paris the Regent Hotel Kuala Lumpur and the Ritz Hotel in Taipei. Having developed his exceptional talents as a chef and culinary administrator he came to Australia in 1984. Refusing offers of executive positions at major hotels. He opened three intimate restaurants in the northern Sydney area where his satisfied clients followed him every time he moved. He brought a unique talent to his wide range of creations, most of which are classic dishes in the traditional Escoffier style.
Michael Hong and his wife Jessica took over the restaurant when Maurice Magneron retired in 2012. As the new owner and Award-winning chef. Michael also is a greatly respected chef in Sydney. He graduated from the commercial cookery Professional course at Ryde college and completed his 4 year apprenticeship in St. Ives. Over the last 25 years he has worked as a commis chef at Sydney Hilton Hotel, as a Demis chef at the famous restaurant Kable at the Regent Hotel Sydney (currently the Four season Hotel), then he became a chef De Partie of Pyrmont seafood steak, Alporto Italian, Astral Restaurants in the star Casino often going above and beyond his required duties such as filling in for the sous-chef. Michael has worked with the Famous French chef, Serge Dansereau, now the Bather’s Pavilion owner. Michael continues his business success story. He and his wife Jessica became the owners of a tired cafe Restaurant in Chatswood in 2009. Michael used his more than 20 years experience and talents to revitalise the restaurant and transform the restaurant from the original depressing place to a fun and exciting prosperous business.
Since Michael Hong has operated Chez Maurice et Linda French Restaurant in May 2012. Business has increased to full capacity. Initially the menu remained the same, simply because it proved successful over 30 years. Now the menu has slightly changed with additional dishes. Only the finest ingredients are chosen to provide the best possible dishes, the refurbishment of restaurant created an authentic French environment.

I read the reviews, I'd heard great things about the food and snails and I was not disappointed. Housemade pate on arrival. Portions were perfect. The waitress was really nice and the chef came out a couple of times to monitor the atmosphere. The restaurant itself was French themed, as was the music and menu. Very romantic. You could feel and taste the love in every dish. Parking: Lots of free street parking close by.
Had a lovely dîner with my husband here. The food was absolutely authentic and delicious. Also a five star for the warm and attentive service. I will highly recommend the escargots à la bourguignonne and beef Wellington. hope to visit back soon.
What a delight this unpretentious French bistro is and worthwhile driving a long way to experience. I have spent long periods in France and the various bistros around the country pride themselves in serving beautifully presented and high quality food. I found this restaurant, with an interesting history in Balgowlah and on entering I knew that we were in for a treat when I saw the painting of Napoleon on a horse hanging on the wall. The great man himself would have been delighted with the quality and simplicity of the food. The entrées were generous and delicious and my beef Wellington beautifully presented and the beef cooked to perfection with a delicious accompanying sauce. We had a wonderful dessert and the serviced was swift and attentive. I no longer need to go to Paris to experience the wonders of French bistro culinary delights. We drove 6 hours for this exquisite meal and it was worth it in every way.
Beef Wellington succulently good…again! The chicken liver pate appetiser remains one of the best I’ve had. Escargot was very good. It’s byo only and a bit of a walk to nearest bottleo so come armed!
A really great traditional French bistro style experience. Fabulous bouillabaisse. It is BYO wine. A small restaurant so can get a little noisy and definitely need to book well in advance.Food: 5/5
Cozy, lovely, authentic little bistro. Delicious food, good atmosphere and fabulous service Zoe was amazingly kind! Pleasantly surprised with this find. We will be back! Leo and Megan.
Excellent French dishes, pleasant and competent staff, good service and delicious food.Food: 5/5
5 stars for the food. Minus 1 star for service. Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way. We waited a long time for the mains to be served. The waitress made a mistake and served my Beef Wellington to another table. She only realised the mistake 2 mins later and took the plate away from them and brought it to us. In a normal non-covid circumstance, I wouldn't be too fussy. But in this environment, it is a potential health risk. I wasnt even sure if that table dipped their fork or spoon into my main. The waitress apologised so I'm not gonna make too much noise. But the owner has to be aware of this incident. Now for the positives. This place definitely serve high quality, classic French dishes. There are not many places that serves Beef Wellington, not to mention a good one. This place does it perfectly. Buttery pastry, smooth and rich pate and a perfectly cooked medium rare fillet. The lamb brain was one of the best I have had, delicate yet flavourful. My favourite is the Creme Brulee. Many French restaurants dont put enough sugar to make the crust. Chez Maurice on the other hand, puts too much sugar. But I absolutely love the overly sweet, hard crusted, eggy, creamy Creme Brulee. Definitely A+ place. I love Hubert, it is one of my favourite French restaurants in Sydney, but I think they can learn a thing or two from Chez Maurice....
First time vistit last night to Chez Maurice Et Linda and it was great. Our waitress was very friendly and professional and the food was terrfic. Very classic, authentic French and we'll definitely be going back. ps corkage was only $3.50 per person so you can bring your favourite champagne and wine as we did. Thanks Chez Maurice Et Linda! :-
Excellent selection of classic French cuisine, prepared deliciously with a delicate balance of all the various ingredients. The ambiance is very nice and cosy. Excellent service with knowledgeable staff. Our waitress was able to advise us on the menu and the chef came around and greeted the tables. A very personal experience.
