You gotta love this place. It has a massive collection of books, puzzles, DVDs. Every genre you can imagine. It’s rough and ready however that just adds to the charm. It does feel about 5 degrees colder inside the shed than outside so in the cooler months wear warm clothing. The cat is pretty cool too.
Doesn't look much from the highway but if you like books, this place is a good option. Depends on your gene of book but they have a good selection, in Letter order or by Gene. And if you like cats, there is a friendly in store cat that will make a fuss of you as well.
I generally give 5 stars for amazing destinations and customer service. This was a very disheartening experience. The owner/lady behind counter was very disrespectful to customers just prior to closing this evening. At least eight customers, including two elderly woman one with mobility problems were affected by her belligerent nature. She obviously expected the store to be vacated before 5pm. Her attitude is not a reflection of the small community in Chertsey. Rude and slightly aggressive. Ending an enjoyable weekend away with such a negative experience.
Heaps of books, including some very old ones and new ones. Reasonably priced for their condition, and certainly a mountain to get lost in. The cat was certainly a highlight when it came to say hello before falling asleep beside me! Only sad point was the number of wet/damp books in places, though understandably it's in an old barn so there are leaks and cobwebs!
Large book barn with character and lots of stock, mainly popular fiction but some specialty fiction categories sci fi, fantasy, classics and non fiction.
This was a little surprise on the way to Dunedin from Christchurch! Spontaneously recommended by a friend I quickly stopped here and found so many books and movies I wanted to get! I managed to grab 3 2 books + 1 dvd for $5!!! Ladies were so lovely they gave me some cookies too : definitely would go back when I'm going back to Chirstchurch
Very interesting place to visit re used books of all categories. A bit overwhelming because of the number of books available. You need time to appreciate the Chertsey Book Barn.
Was very full. Interesting. Cosy reading spots. Old book store feeling. Friendly staff. Huge selection in every genre.
If you want jigsaws go buy new 1s they're $10 + here bloody rip off. Over priced and there's shelves and shelves of them. never pay that anywhere else for a second hand jigsaw puzzle.
Great selection of books. Worth a look.
