Located in the heart of Melbourne's Sand Belt is this picturesque cemetery / memorial park. It is an enormous section of land that takes up a large proportion of Wangara Rd with its southern brick and cyclone wire fence. The grounds and the building are very well maintained and I would place the red brick structures as post WW1. Two entry points via Reserve Road and Wangara Road. Active CovID protocol with QR codes, public and disabled toilets, wheel chair friendly.
My parents and Grandmother are laid to rest at Cheltenham it’s beautifully very well maintained keep in excellent condition and presentation it is a happy pleasure going there. Well done to the staff and management. Tony Bishop.
This cemetery was built on the hill. It has many old and new grave sites. The grounds are very well cared for. It is beautiful and quiet. So quiet I nearly had a lie down to rest. But no, not yet, that's for later, much later!
I was greeted at the reception by 1 woman on the phone, telling somebody off regarding an order. The other was getting impatient with an elderly man who was trying to get advice. I finally got some great directions though after my 10yo autistic son and I were greeted with "hello ladies", I replied with "he is a boy" before she corrected herself. But anyway, eventually found the plaques of my Nanna and Great Grandmother with grass grown up over it and one had a big layer of dirt covering it. The lawn is dry, crunchy and full of ants, a very uncomfortable place to sit with your loved one. I spent an hour cleaning their plaques with soap and paper towels from the bathroom in the direct 33°c heat, emptying flower placements and cutting away grass, while knealing on dry spikey grass and getting eaten by ants. My Nanna would be extremely disappointed to see her plaque and parents plaques like this as she was a proud woman. I was so disappointed! Learn to use a sprinkler and whipper snipper for goodness sake... I'll be bringing my own blower vac and whipper snipper next time.. No I am not talking to reception, not after what I witnessed, I don't want to be spoken to like that. We bought a whole plot for the family when it was nice. So its not like we arent loyal customers lol.
Nice clean cemetery. Lots of room. Nice to have a little walk around.
It's a great cemetery. However they don't mow the lawns very well and run rough shod over some graves. Very disappointing. Toilets are excellent. Should have a cafe though. It would work.
Just as well these people are deceased and cannot see the condition of the Lawn Cemetery - It's a disgrace for the money outlaid by famalies
So many old and new graves, a lot have elaborate epitaphs. Paved roads and street signs help locate different sections of the cemetery. Thousands of roses and colorful annuals make this a wonderful area to visit and relax.
My father is buried here. A well planned cemetery located close to the coast, and catering to many faiths. Lawn, monument and vault locations subject to availability. Grounds well maintained. Main entrance located on Reserve Road.
my mother & father's resting place.....1979 my father & 2021 my mum.....if my brother wasn't aware the cemetery were going to throw my dads plaque away....they didn't think to ask us first....
