Small, but mighty. This museum is on the Sydney Uni campus and features some really well-curated pieces from Ancient Rome, Egypt and the Middle East. As well as some Aboriginal history and Australian native animal exhibits.nnBecause it's small, the exhibit stories are uniquely told. For example, the Egyptian area isn't trying to compete with what you'd see at a major international museum because it can't, but instead tells the story of Australia's involvement in Egyptian excavations. Did you know that it was a professor from the University of Sydney that pioneered the use of x-rays to examine mummies in the early 1900s?nnAnother highlight is the giant Lego build of Pompeii, made by the Brickman himself. Very fun.nn I spent about an hour wandering through, you could probably spend 2 if you were mulling over the signage. Not a full-day activity.nn Easy access via bus either from City Rd coming from Newtown or along Broadway from the city or Parramatta Rdnn There is a cafe on site.
My visit to the Chau Chak Wing Museum for the Sydney Biennale exhibition was fascinating. The exhibited artworks were diverse and thought-provoking, providing a captivating artistic experience. The museum's modern architecture and spatial arrangement were impressive, adding to the appeal of the exhibition.nThe staff was helpful, and the interpretive panels were informative. In summary, it was an enriching experience that I highly recommend to contemporary art enthusiasts.
Incredible experience visiting the Chau Chak Wing museum. Such rich history and live artefacts being showcased to the public in a very informative and interactive way. This was a great experience
A must visit museum in Sydney - an impressively curated collection of Ancient Egypt, Greek , Roman, Polynesian art and free. They also have photography and natural science exhibitions.nnThe location is a short stroll from the city in picturesque Sydney Uni and the museum has a very relaxing atmosphere. I enjoyed wandering around for a couple of hours without the crowds and queues of other museums and the entry free.
This is such an interesting museum to visit. Unfortunately I was pressed for time so will have to make a return visit which I certainly intend to do.nThe collection has an amazing Egyptology section which is well displayed but also it has some impressive Greek and Roman items plus more recent items such as measuring tools dating from the early 20th centurynThere is also a very pleasant café there together with a small shop.nHighly recommended.
