I went there on Friday to play pool and sing karaoke with some friends as we have many years before. This was a well known location for good rock music, classic songs and heaps of decent pool tables on offer.. However, we were shocked to find that the venue is now tiny with only 4 tables, overpriced drinks and their karaoke collection consists of Justin Beiber and 1 Direction.... This was an adult venue.. Now it become another teeny bopper hang out. Rock lovers and billiard players, avoid this place like the plague!
Hard to get to and not in an interesting way and a little disappointing once you are there. Karaoke tends to be a love it or loathe it kind of thing for most people but even those who love it might struggle here. The music was loud but still hard to hear and the whole place was pretty messy. We had no indication of when it would be our turn to sing but after waiting an hour and despite many people not being there when their names were called we left to find somewhere else.
I went there on a Friday a few weeks ago. In the two hours I was there, I never sang, but the DJ and a few others did several times. It was not crowded. The DJ skipped over my first song entirely and gave my second to a drunk guy who had never heard it before. He took quite a few breaks. I finally left after he disappeared into a back room with a drunk chick from the crowd. Would not go again or recommend to anyone else.
A serious dive bar, but the crowd is always friendly. This place is not cool by any stretch of the imagination, but you can't beat it for a night of karaoke and dancing to dodgy 90s rnb/hip hop. Fun.
I am an occasional Charltons visitor, never been disappointed with the entertainment on offer pool and karaoke. But on my last visit on Wednesday the 5th of December I was shocked by the petty attitude of one of the bar staff. A group of people who were mingling near our pool table moved on and left behind their empty beer bottles, my brothers and my one third full bottles were on the other end of the table. The bar tender mistakenly took our bottles back, we didn't see him do it but we noticed they were missing pretty quickly and went up to him, he was behind the bar now. We told him we'd not finished our beer, he said nothing, grabbed two new ones from the fridge and before we knew what was happening, he deliberately knocked the bottles on the bench before opening them on the bar in front of us. He then immediately walked off and we thought he'd done the right thing, until we noticed the two bottles spewing beer out all over the bar and dripping onto the floor and behind the bar. I was a bit shocked by what had just happened, it seemed unbelievable that the bartender had just done what he had done. So I tried to assume it all was an accident, and spoke to another lady behind the bar about it. The petty bartender returned to the bar very quickly then, and said to me, "your beers were not full when I took them, they've got about the right amount in them now". This floored me and I suppose I should have left it there, being grateful that at least he'd given us some beer back. But it was such bizarre behaviour, done in a resentful, spiteful and wasteful way there was quite a lot of spilt beer all over the place. If the bartender had instead communicated with me as he was giving us the replacement beer, I would have reacted differently if say he emptied half the beer down the sink, or given us one stubbie with a couple of glasses. I think even a sober person would be excused for pointing out how terrible this customer service was to the bartender. But my brother and I had consumed a couple of drinks and in the petty bartenders mind we were intoxicated and he could throw us out. Which he did. I'm not sure if I will ever go to Charltons again. I don't think the behaviour of this petty bartender is representative of everyone who works there, but my conscious tells me the appropriate reaction to being treated this way is to not reward such a business with my patronage again.
Great dive bar for open mic karaoke. The venue features three rooms including a pool room, dance floor, and karaoke room.
Best open forum karaoke in town, friendly staff, great music,cheap booze and heaps of vibe. Would sing again
Good place for some doof doof music or an attempt at karaoke without being embarrassed or just simply to let your hair down and enjoy the night.
I love this place, free pool tables, friendly staff, unobtrusive security and wildly popular karaoke
