Story

Castlemaine Library occupies the original Mechanics' Institute premises, built in 1857. We provide library services to the community of Mount Alexander Shire. As a branch of Goldfields Library Corporation, we offer our members access to the resources of ten libraries across the goldfields region of central Victoria. And library membership is free!

The Castlemaine Library in the historic (1857) Mechanics Institute building is a fantastic regional library and as well as daily and local newspapers, magazines, a large collection of books, talking books and DVDs, it has free wifi so you can take your own laptop with you. There is also copying and printing facilities available. The events and workshops held at the library are also well worthwhile attending and the seed library is a great idea too.

A neat and tidy public library with good sitting areas and friendly staff. Situated right on the centre of town close to cafes, shops and banks.

Absolutely marvelous place! The book wind in the willows helped with my technological assignment it really really helped me build my first custom water cooled pc my cpu is overclocked now because the three little pigs novel was soooooo useful I really enjoyed this library

Ever since renovations the building looks great. Not a lot of parking is the only downside but a great environment for studying
