Canterbury Primary School provides a passionate learning community that inspires, challenges & supports all students to achieve their personal best and make a positive contribution to the world in which they live. The values (Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Resilience) guide the decisions and behaviours of all members of the community. Student learning is personalised using flexible and dynamic student groupings to ensure all students are challenged at their point of learning need.
The school has approximately 600 students and employs approximately 60 staff. Built in 1908, the school is located in a heritage overlay area. The community appreciates and values the character and history of the school. We are very proud of the state of the art facility, opened in 2011, which incorporates a senior learning centre, music room, art room, internal senior toilets and gymnasium. The school is set in well maintained grounds with well-established trees providing a range of outdoor spaces for learning as well as passive and active play. This includes a synthetic turf oval and running track, two adventure playground areas and a range of quiet play outdoor areas. The school facilities are shared with the wider community.
The professional contribution made to the school and the wider community by the highly committed staff team is widely recognised. In order to continually improve student learning, staff pursue ongoing professional development linked into their performance and development plans.
The strong support and engagement of the school community and the high value it places upon learning contributes directly to students' achievement in learning and personal development. Parents are widely involved in the life of the school. Each year in May, the school's major fundraiser, the Canterbury Art Exhibition, draws the entire community together, showcasing works of contemporary art from artists across Australia.
To create a passionate learning community that inspires, challenges and supports all students to achieve their personal best and make a positive contribution to the world in which they live.
