Story

Once upon a time, in a 1920s Queenslander in Greenslopes, two lovers of all things vintage met and began a voyage that would change their lives forever ... Can You Keep A Secret? (I know we can’t.)

Back in the day, this amazing duo created an institution where locals could shop and ‘hang’. Not only did this place provide some of Brisbane's finest hand-picked and locally sourced vintage clothing, accessories and furniture (ranging from the 1950s to the early 1980s), but their humble little place was also the home to some very special funk-filled events, with live music, food trucks, and plenty of good vibes being shared by all.

Unfortunately, like every fairy tale, there’s either a big bad wolf or a nasty witch standing in the wings. In this case there was both and neither of them was happy with the duo creating such a wonderful, fun space for the community; so, it was time for them to pack up and move on ...

Fortunately, lo and behold, there awaited for them the most magical place of all—George Hillyard’s Shop House. Built in the mid-1860s, this rare and gorgeous building was once the premises for George and his family’s successful jewellery and watchmaking business.

With a little hard work, sweat, and not too many tears, the duo (along with some very helpful helpers) transformed the old shop from its bad 90’s makeover to reveal the beauty within (including the stunning brickwork surrounds).

Now Mr Hillyard’s shop can smile again, housing, as it does, many wonderful vintage treasures and a gorgeous lounge bar.
