Cambridge Museum

About

Welcome to the Cambridge Historical Society. As well as running the local museum we love all things historical

Story

Located in the Old Courthouse in Victoria Street, the Cambridge Museum aims to preserve Cambridge's rich historical legacy for future generations. In the late 19th century, Cambridge residents started collecting items of local interest relating to historical research, pre-European settlement, and the development of Cambridge. The Museum now has a fine collection of artefacts and archival material including biographies, historical information on local businesses, clubs, people and societies, buildings information, land and property records, military records (particularly the 3rd Waikato Militia and WWI Cambridge soldiers), school records, family histories and a wealth of photographs, postcards and ephemera.

Mission

Our mission is to provide the Cambridge community with a record of their past as well as make a recording of the present for the future generations.

Outstanding comprehensive Archives of Cambridge, and surrounding areas. The attendant on duty the day I visited. Karen. As o was enquiring about an elderly, long departed ancestor/relative went far beyond the call of duty and made an exhaustive search of their large library of records, and even telephoned an Elder, at the local community Marae, whom I spoke to personally, who's knowledge put me on the exact path I needed to travel next. Most helpful indeed. And has the best display of New Zealand native wooden crafts I have ever seen.

Couldn't get inside. Not wheelchair accessible. People friendly enough, they said they spoke this morning at a meeting about getting a ramp. It's 4dec 2017... let's hope access is soon so we can visit

Went here with the family, all the ask is a donation. It's quite small but has some good information about the local histroy. Worth a look if you have a free hour.
