Visited Cairns Aquarium recently, and it was an unforgettable experience! There’s so much to explore and learn about the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem. My personal highlight was the underwater tunnel. It’s a great outing for families, kids, and adults alike. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Cairns. A must-see!
Amazing Aquarium experience in AustraliannI’m very impressed by how engaging and fun Cairns Aquarium is. It’s quite big and has various sections showing different water species in the region. I particularly love the informative talks. I spent around 4 hours there as I enjoyed reading information, but it could be done in ~2 hours. Staff are friendly and helpful.nOne thing I’d love to see is more drinking fountains around!
Visited the Cairns Aquarium as part of our holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.nnWe were able to easily spend a couple of hours there, absorbing the endless information and observing the large number of both aquatic and terrestrial creatures that call this place home. Everything appeared in pristine condition, with enclosures well maintained, clean, and well presented, while the animals seemed healthy and content in their environment.nnA big highlight was being in the right place at the right time to watch a shark laying an egg. She delivered right in front of the group present, using membrane to tie it to a rock. The staff member with us explained it would be safely and carefully removed and, all going well, would hatch in isolation and welcome one new pup into the Aquarium.nnWe also enjoyed the presentations given throughout the day, as they provided additional insight and awareness into multiple topics. I think everyone present took home some nugget of information they hadn't previously known. One small criticism is that both presenters were quite casual in their delivery, using slang and some quirky tales Aussie male names for sharks wanting to go the pub, have a great Barramonday, etc.. Not at all an issue for us, and quite entertaining. I do worry, however, with sizeable tourist numbers frequenting the Aquarium, that many of these tales will be lost in translation. Aussie English is already a curious beast, so delivering information in that style may limit understanding.nnOverall, we truly enjoyed and appreciated our time at Cairns Aquarium. It was informative, educational, visually impressive, and plenty of fun. The layout is logical and easy to follow, and the staff were all lovely. Thank you very much, keep up the great work.nnPS......the Aquarium has full disability accessibility, ranging from an entry/exit ramp through to lifts and suitable bathrooms.
We had SUCH a great time here! We only had a couple of hours but you could really spend the whole of the opening hours here as there’s so much to see and read about and take loads of pictures.nnWe were so impressed with the whole set up super initiative and fun. We made two of the talks today, both by Cameron who was amazing. He was super engaging, really knowledgable and just a lovely guy.nnWould love to come back soon but sadly we are not local. Thanks a lotnnGeorgie and Patrick London
Cairns aquarium is a beautifully made aquarium with the animals enrichment and quality of life strongly considered in the creation of their habitats. All animals looked happy and healthy and tanks were beautiful and clean. We also paid the $20 to visit the turtle rehabilitation centre and i’m so glad we did. Our educator, Cameron, was so lovely and had a lot of knowledge and information about the turtles and the ones in their care. We got to watch him feed the turtles as he spoke about why each as every one of them were there and how they were being so lovingly cared for. Absolutely fantastic experience and the aquarium was a highlight of our trip. We listened to the educators speak about the rays and sharks and deep reef fish and they were very knowledgeable and passionate about the animals. Highly recommend the Cairns Aquarium to people of all ages.
