It's bizarre that Cafe Quince remains so busy most lunchtimes, since the food it offers is mediocre at best and the service is laughably bad. Waitstaff are consistently disinterested, rude and poorly trained. The only competent staff are holed up behind the counter either too busy making coffees or minding the till. I've been here twice now only because I was bored of the other nearby food offerings - on my first visit, the chicken burger was quite filling due to its generous size, but didn't taste spectacular; on the second visit, the waitress bungled my omelette order even though it was ordered right off the menu without alterations, and the replacement took quite a while to come. I've given this place two shots, I don't think it deserves a third.
October Update: Rapidly going downhill! Coffee very weak and slow to arrive; understaffed still; food good tho menu been cut since August review: [Following comments from August] New Manager so lack of staff for City2Surf Sunday! Kitchen obviously under pressure as well as no chicken burger available and the beef burger not too good. However, I go 2-3 times per month so know many food items normally good esp prawn linguine, staff friendly though attracting their attention can be difficult at times, and high turnover, and coffee usually good. Can be very cold and drafty if wind blowing.
Just had coffee there, and it was fairly weak. Location is convenient. Been there towards closing time, while still sitting in one side of the bench, the wait staff started turning chairs over right in front of our face, as if to say we need to leave, not that we were going to stay anyway. Pretty bad way of treating customers while pretending to be a trendy cafe in otherwise posh location. Didn't seem to be very happy behind the counter either while ordering banal cup of coffee. If you tired and want to go home just go, as you not doing any favours to yourself first of all.
Worst. Service. Anywhere. 30 minutes to get a snack from the display case, and a reminder needed for the drinks order. Poor fellow next to us had waited longer. Staff inexperienced and did not communicate with each other or customers. Disorganized and unsure of counter or table service. Nothing happening nehind the counter at times, and still waiting for our order. When asked whether I wanted my sandwich toasted, I declined who toasts lettuce??, however it arrived toasted and almost inedible. Avoid this place if you desire good food served well.
Open very early.... if you need caffeine early morning. This cafe is recommended especially after gym
Saturday staff can't make a decent coffee. My latte was not frothy and when I asked for it to be made again it was just hot milk and it was bitter. My husband's coffee was also bitter. We were away for 3 months and the coffee has not been the same since we came back even during the week as we regularly visit Qunce. Used to be the best coffee in BJ but now the worst.
Had breakfast at Quince. My cappuccino was quite flat and the freshly pressed orange juice was very watery. Smashed Avocado&Feta was good, but had almost no feta on it. Bacon and egg roll was ok, the egg was overcooked. Also double check your bill as they "forget" to apply the combo menu price Bacon and Egg roll + Coffee. Very average.
I don't like to give 1 stars but it leaves me no choice but to do so. Very cold coffee with a strong milky smell. Poached eggs were not fresh, bread was too dry and chicken was not fresh at all. Price was okay and that's about it.
Tried to serve us potato chips when repeatedly requested for sweet potato chips. Served the former by claiming “we don’t serve sweet potato chips” despite it being on the menu. Cancelled the chips order, yet 5 minutes later served up SWEET potato chips no questions asked, and insisted we eat + pay for it since we initially ordered it. No apologies, poor communication, dishonest staff, food was mediocre and pricey. You’re better off grabbing a Lean Cuisine meal from Coles served up with a side of gastroenteritis than eating at this “establishment”.
Coffee was fantastic, as were my Egg's Benedict and my Wife's Smashed Avocado on toast. They were able to offer GF toast also which was great. Wait was very reasonable, recommended
