After reading mixed reviews we were bit hesitant to dine here but as we were on our holiday we picked this place for our anniversary dinner as ambience seemed to be nice. After few attempts to book online we walked by the place and realised they got board on the wall that you can write your details and time you are coming for dinner. That did work out well. We visited on Monday evening, service was quick, food was good. I would have prefer my fish to be little bit more crispy but overall we were happy with our dining experience here.
Nice restaurant next to the water. The food was yummy, big portion and different choices. Servers are nice, but coordination are maybe not that great, different servers came to ask for our orders. Lots of choices are good but felt hard to choose too.Food: 5/5
Our experience was drowned out by the rain, however we had a good time having breakfast by the water. The staff were great and sang a song and did a little dance for a lady who celebrated her 81st birthday. The staff got the whole restaurant into it, it was good fun! The food is tasty, however the coffee wasn't great unfortunately.
Had breakfast here, absolutely love the owners personality and hospitality. He opened up the blinds to the seaside and it was super nice. Not to mention the place had a nice vibe to it. Food wise - Though the kids pancake was a tad burnt, the rest of the food was pretty well executed. Would be better if they served kids pancakes with something else but ice cream for breakfast to make it healthier :
Young daughter desperately wanted pancakes for a treat. Couldn't find anywhere until we stumbled across Cafe Balaena. Absolutely packed, but the chef was able to quickly whip us up some pancakes. And OMG best pancakes we've ever tried, our daughter says they are the very best she's ever eaten. We will come back and dine in for sure!
Pancakes are excellent, very fluffy and crispy on the outside edges. Various options, i went with the bacon, pineapple & maple syrup - not too heavy and went down a treat! juice was good. Service friendly and efficient. Recommend
Absolutely top V.I.P service. We where greeted on our names every time and given the Royalty treatment. The food is to die for and great prices. Must if you in Hervey Bay. Easy accessibility and great ambiance. Highly recommended. We had lunc and bfast and dinner several times and each time great meals and service.
What a great and handy location by the marina where we caught boat tours; the atmosphere was lovely with music and birthday singing and dancing, good table service and even better food! From breakfast coffee opens at 6am to late seafood dinner. You couldn't ask for more. We went back several times.
Absolutely amazing food and fantastic atmosphere. Best meals had since as long as can remember. Service could be bit improved though all friendly but could be more attentive
Cafe Balaena was a beautiful hidden Gem of Hervey Bay, with excellent service, divine meals and enticing atmosphere there was nothing that would disappoint. Service was so above and beyond that they would go out of their way to make sure your meal was as good as it could possibly be. On behalf of the QBD Hervey Bay team and the QBD Team from Brisbane we would definitely visit again!
