As a freshly graduated student that only spent a year here, it's alright but like the other public school I attended it could do better, much better. I made some cool friends and even met the bestie of my life :] however when they were putting me into the system the teacher me and my mum met during our appointment had made me commit to a certificate I didn't want to be in and obviously not the one I participated in my original school : . I was told many things about the nurses and school counselors and it was already common sense not to trust them since they tell your parents EVERYTHING you tell them word from a friend. Also heard and experienced a lot of unpleasant people most of them younger years than me, duh because they're yuck! and got teased quite a bit. The teachers are alright and I have some favourites, but two of my teachers who guided the lesson left and was pretty bummed out lol. Had a teacher literally humiliate a female student in my class due to her wagging classes and coming in late. My AH teacher was absolutely cool! loved learning about Ancient History especially when she made things simple to understand especially with light-hearted jokes. I was also told about how some teachers were unreliable since a friend of mine - who was very mentally ill but fun nonetheless - had made several inappropriate comments which should have earned a letter of concern about his wellbeing, however the teacher did nothing and pretty much falsely threatened him. It also surprised me how chill the teachers were with the students. While graduating I saw a few students hug their teachers and physically touch on another - ofcourse in an appropriate manner I even got a fist bump from my English teacher as praise. It was just overall shocking as my previous high school had forbid physical touch between staff and students.nnAlso did some silly things with my best friend on our devices while on school grounds using school wifi and SOMEHOW haven't gotten called out for searching certain things minors should not lmao. Had fun, kinda wished I was here for longer but screw that haha.
Have had the teacher discussing my child’s grades with another student breaching confidentiality. When asked to apologise, she refused. Teacher told me one story, told me daughter another story, and told another staff member something different. School has called me telling me you can’t force the teacher to apologise.nThis is not a supportive environment for your child. I will be continuing to fight for my child’s rights and for a respectful environment within the school.
End of 2024 every kid was throwing water balloons because of 35+ weather and the staff all had a sulk about it and can’t let kids have fun sent me home early even though I was the only one who didn’t throw balloons i guess the principal doesnt like fun this is why I hate this school
Terrible school one of my teachers said that we will get nowhere in life because we weren’t doing any work but she wasn’t teaching us anything, lots of drama, fights that end up with ambulances, not teaching us something then they put it in a test and we fail, really bad bullying, a lot of racism, when you report something they ignore it, assembly’s about reporting bullying but if you report bullying they say there’s nothing they can do about it, not being able to keep the class under control always ending up with the head of the block or student services in our classes, hardly do any work, the rules are stupid first we’re not allowed phones but what if you need to contact your parents for an emergency? Then they’re so strict about uniform and one tiny thing they send you to buddy, they keep you in at lunch and after school, teachers invade students personal space I wouldn’t recommend sending your child here, most kids have left after a year or so.
Absolute disgrace. Have almost been run over by students doing burnouts behind the school and seeing them speed through on wrong side of car park of YMCA almost hitting the back of the crèche where small children are playing. This happens regularly. Most of the students do the right thing but these few students doing the wrong thing makes our community unsafe. My issue is school principal won’t even return a call to discuss school policy around driving in and out of school and around school grounds. Was going to send my kids to Byford High but after witnessing the indifference to such unsafe behaviour it’s a hard pass from me.
