We were told it was a good place to see blue penguins there. We stayed for a long time and we did not see anything. There were too many people.
We had settled on a fishing pier to eat and for a moment we saw a little pinguin marching towards us. He came 3 feet from us. He went back into the water.

We walked here (30mins) from Oamaru but there is some parking. Path to beach is closed but path along the top provides good views of the beach leading to an observation deck and hut.
I think you're unlikely to see penguins, especially at this time of year, but we did see several sea lions both in the sea and on the beach.

Not a lot of parking and rather difficult to find but the view is very nice! This is a place where you can watch penguins come to shore from the sea. Usually here’s quite a lot of wildlife, however the path to the beach is usually blocked off to protect them.

Beautiful beach, we went during sunset and saw around 5 seals. Unfortunately didn't see any penguins but we may have gone too late. Still really enjoyed our visit.
