Bunk is a fantastic hostel in that it has probably the most silent beds for a hostel I’ve ever had the pleasure of sleeping in. Staff are patient and attentive especially with booking the many extensions we gave them grief with booking last minute. The hostel is really only lacking in good social spaces to hang out in, the reception is huge and has a pool table but barring the pretty small dining area there really is nowhere to just hang out at the hostel besides your room. A TV room or similar would do wonders!
The best hostel I have ever stayed at. Tommy was so lovely and upgraded us to a smaller room after a gross time at another hostel. All staff were very helpful and rooms/kitchen/laundry room were very clean. Lovely lobby to sit in too
A lovely hostel with everything you could possibly need. I had a private room however the drains in my shower absolutely stank, the smell was horrendous. Furthermore, the hostel is in a horrendous part of Brisbane and my tour guide recommended that no one walk alone at any point. Therefore whilst I would recommend this hostel if you’re on a tour or in a group I wouldn’t recommend it as a solo traveller especially if you’re female as it isn’t in a safe location. Bar these two points the hostel is lovely and perfect to stay in during your time in Brisbane.
Clean, spacious and plenty of room to store food and cook which is vital in a hostel. Rooms are ridiculously warm in the evening on the top floor, but not totally unbearable. Pool was out of action when I stayed annoyingly, would have been nice to have known that before I booked
To continue the string of bad reviews, in short, I also had a terrible experience at this hostel and couldn't wait to leave. I highly advise anyone NOT to stay here!nnThe main issue was that they charged me around $90 more than I should have been charged for a private room upgrade. Weeks before my arrival date I had emailed them to request this as I was travelling with a tour group and having done the calculations of what I'd already paid to be in a dorm, from the cost of what a private room cost I made the difference to be around $140 but they told me it would be $190.nnNot only did they ignore my email completely but they straight out demanded I pay the $190/night. Their excuses were that because it was a group booking they couldn't resell the space in the dorm which is absolute rubbish as this isn't the case at any other hostel I've been to along the East Coast including their own in Surfer's Paradise!!! and that the $190 excess was a 'reduced rate'. This was a lie - I went on their website and the private rooms go for a total of $220 bearing in mind I'd already paid $73.33/nightnnAll the staff on the front desk were incredibly rude when I spoke to them about this and other issues with the room which I had then forked out for. When I first arrived I waited patiently in line to check in but got told to move to one side 3 times! I then spoke to the bookings manager Hoff in another occasion who was completely unapologetic and made no accommodations on this whatsoever. Made worse by his gaslighting by saying things like 'I'm sorry you feel that way' - which I guarantee will be his/their response to this too so condescending to a paying customer!nnThe room itself was absolutely not worth all the extra expense. It was small, with marks and stains and I looked out on to a brick wall. They couldn't even provide a bath mat and you're not allowed to have a controller to the AC because they assume you'll steal it ! so you're either too hot or too cold all the time.nnAdded to this, all the private rooms are right opposite the main floor door which gets opened and slammed literally every minute making the wall shake and causing a lot of disruptions when trying to sleep.nnWhen I raised this again with reception the Asian lady on the desk was incredibly rude to me and disrespectful, telling me to wear ear plugs or instead 'go elsewhere' and that updates and upgrades to the rooms are 'impossible' so if I should want to see these changes should 'be a shareholder in the business then' ?! She then went on to have the audacity to say that 'my negativity is affecting their customer service' whilst then brushing me to one side and ignoring me despite my request to have the AC turned down. I was shocked at her attitude.nnI've travelled all round the world to numerous countries over the past 25 years but have never come across such rude staff in a hostel/hotel in any other place spanning across the continents!nnLastly to note: the signage is very poor when trying to find the hostel, the kitchens are left in a dreadful, dirty state with overflowing bins and piles of washing up left out and the building itself is situated right next to all the strip clubs.nnAll in all you can get a 10 X better stay at a 4 star hotel in the area for less money so I'd recommend doing that! Would never go back here.
