I had been doing group physio therapy 4 times a week at Bundoora ext care in Dec as I had total knee replacement surgery, my physiotherapist was Laura.nOn the 20th Dec was my last physio group session with only one other Lady on that day.. just before finishing the excercise session she advised me she was going to donan assessment, i was askedndo a few specifix exercises one standing up &sitting down in a chair without holding on I was asked to do that 10 times, having already done 10x2 repeats during my exercise session.n2nd was lying on the bed liftingneach leg I felt a strain doingnIt along my lower back &’legs I stopped and got up on my own,nWithout her assistance as she had walked away.nanother one was tapping each leg on a wooden box without holding on.nnAfter going home I was feeling a bit sore &’thought I was just tired but all day and upto that evening my pain got worse, and in the morning getting out of bed &standing up I felt excruciating pain! along my lower back buttocks&’upper & lower thigh legs it was so difficult to walk my husband hadnto help me walk After two days the pain never subsided it got worsenI went to my gp he suspected that I may have inflammation of the bursa bursitis he sent me for an ultrasound they scanned my hips only as it was too painful to move on my side, nthe results did show bursitis my gp concluded, over doingncertain exercises that had triggered it. I was given pain& anti-inflammation meds he also referred Me to a specialist physiotherapist treatingnSpinal & muscular injuries.nAfter his assessment of my painful symptoms he confirmed that with the type of pain I had it was also a bulging disc that was pressing on my lower spinal cord which was the main cause of the pain. He advised me to do hydro-therapy fornNow doing gentle walking in the pool &floating on my back to relieve the pressure. And gentle legnLifting excercises e with elastic band.nI’m on stronger meds because the pain hasn’t subsided, i maynHave to do a CT scan & depending on the results and with very little subsiding of pain he may recommend a spinal cortisone epidural injection.nWill have to wait & see how it all goes..nI called Bundoora ext carenAnd explained what had happened & to also cancel my 4 weekly group sessions. With my physio Laura.nShecalled me back &’after explaining that it was the excessive exercise that hadnTriggered my injury & I haven’t been able to sleep in my bed for over anMonth, her reaction was minimal & unapologetic, she said she would call me again to check how I’m going & see if I would be eventually returning, I told her I’m not surenHow long it would take &’I wasn’t sure if I would be returning.nnI had Decided to put in an Official complaint, with regarda to Laura, because there really wasnt much empathy shown, a lady from the northern hosp called me shenIs a patient experience liason, i explained everything with what had occurred with my injury &nthat both medical professionals agreed it was over exertion ofnRepetitive exercises that triggered/caused my injury.nI also asked why she needed to do an assessment with me knowing that I would probably be comingnBack she said that Laura was being transferred to the hospital/residential care and needed to leave a repirt for the other physiotherapist replacing her.. when I mentioned that Laura over did it with the exercises with my assessment she replied she saw I was doing well she thought I would be okay!nShe was apologetic &gave me some advice about my physio and asked if I would eventuality be returning I told her Indon’t Feel comfortable at all coming back to group Therapy.nI never did get a callback From Laura they probably advisednher not to call I’m not sure..nIt seems to me that there has been a lack of duty of care from Laura/the physio dept, Laura has not been apologetic nor has she taken any accountability..nI always Followed through with my physio therapy excercises to help with my recovery whichnShould’ve been a positive experience with regards to my rehab instead it has had a negative impact on my physical&mental health!
Served it's purpose for my medical condition. Staff are first grade.
