The venue is lively and fun, also child friendly. It was busy when we went Saturday evening; we booked ahead online but food came out in good time. Portions are large, perfect for serving. The fresh pretzels were amazing and we loved tucking into the pork knuckle. Meals come with sides and condiments. The beer selection is A+++
This place has a real old school vibe. It was fairly busy but it added to the vibe and wasn't a problem. Food on point and reasonable in pricing considering the quality and portion size. My pork belly was sensational. It came with roasted baby potato halves & sauerkraut. The beer is next level, lots of German and other European beers to choose from. Very glad I chose this venue!
Preface: I have been wanting to go here for 10 years.nnPORK KNUCKLE my meal. 0.5 StarnWith full anticipation of enjoying one of the top pork knuckles on the east coast I was finally able to arrange a day to get to the Brisbane German Club.nnWe arrived half-starving and prepared to sit down and gorge on tender pork and the super crispy crackling with a side of crispy potatoes and sauerkraut that only a legit German joint can dish out.nnWell, to say I was disappointed is an understatement. We ordered bang on midday when the kitchen opened and 11 minutes later our knuckles come out not exactly hot which was a bit worrying and then taking a look at the crackling photo1 it looks like it has been put under an element for that 10 minutes, left static so none of the sides were made to crisp, and when I started taking apart the meat you could already tell it was going to be a dry, sub-par meal.nnThe potatoes were again warm but not fresh cooked, the sauerkraut tasted like it was out of a tin or had been over-fermented how you do that is beyond me and the gravy might have been the only saving grace.nnFor $44 this might be the worst value for money/taste/experience of the year so far. I am happy that other reviewers have had very positive experiences and from other photos it is pretty obvious BGC can pump out a great knuckle, yesterday though, it was bordering on bad.nnChicken Schnitzel wife's 2 star.nnI mean, if this also ended up being bad I might have just walked up the road to KFC. The schnitzel was pretty good, but it is hard to give credit for a good schnitzel, the local fish n chip shop will do you one just as good.nnThe mash was really ordinary. Powdery while watery, like, how do you do that? The broccoli and carrot were cooked. Small miracles.nnSour Cherry Dessert Pie mine 2.5 starnnNot really a dessert guy but the pie was good, crust quite decent, filling was sufficient.nVanilla Ice Cream tasted like cheap Bulla from ColesnnThe venue was fine, Germanic. Honestly if I went back and had a similar experience I would swear off it, there are a million places in Brisbane and venues can't afford to ship plates like these out any more. There are too many other options and it is easy to sway friends and family away from a venue in place of somewhere that is very consistent.nnThat is my 2c.nnEdit, post- owner response.nnHey Trent,nnTake another look at that pork knuckle mate, the sides are obviously just warm skin and I get that you pre-cook but the knuckles were like it was done last week and they had completely dried out.nnYeah we were there for a few hours, it is a beer hall.. so, we had beers. My knuckle wasn't half finished, the potatoes were gone and that is testament to the pork being mediocre rather than the potatoes being good. Who eats all the potatoes with a good whole pork knuckle?nnWe all decided that after a few beers it was probably not the best time to divulge how disappointed we were.nnThanks for taking the time to respond.
I was introduced by a German the only way it should be 2024 and I loved it so much my family had to come this year. The pretzels are delicious when warm and buttered mmmm. And the meal portions are the size of 2 meals for the price of one. It's any food lovers heaven not to mention the beautiful atmosphere the German culture brings. Such joy you will have here. Danke!
