Brighton Secondary College

Story

Brighton Secondary College is a Year 7 to 12 co-educational public secondary school, located in the City of Bayside, Brighton East, Victoria, Australia. The college was established in 1955, where until 1988, it was known as Brighton High School. More than 1200 pupils are enrolled at the school.Grounds and facilitiesThe college provides a gymnasium, library, canteen, school hall as well as drama and music facilities. The school has an Arts and Materials Section, a Science Wing, VCE and Study Centre. The main part of the school consists of the North and Central wings. The North corridor houses the bulk of general school classrooms, but are used particularly for year 7s. The Central Corridor houses a computer laboratory, staff rooms, and storage and building services like the heater boilers. A portion of the Central corridor was destroyed during a fire in April 2000, previously extending to where the Discovery Centre now stands. It is expected the Northern and Central corridors are to be demolished during 2016 due to their apparent age, and in order to make room for a new building, which will connect to the East wing. The new East Corridor (completed in 2014) consists of two floors. The bottom floor holds the Science and Art departments and classrooms, where as the upper floor contains General VCE classrooms and numerous study centres. The most northern part of the East wing (completed in 2009) consists of the senior school offices and an I.T assistance department. To the south of the library are located the portable classrooms 'P1' to 'P8', yet the area has now been complemented with a temporary hall for lockers. To the east of which, is the Discovery Centre which is used predominantly by year 9s.

I think that this school is amazing! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, especially when you are a new student or you a year 6 transition into year 7. I am currently going through the transition process and there is lots of things that I have noticed at this school. First of all there is heaps of new construction going on and most of the buildings are very new. Second of all, most people that I know go to Brighton Secondary College including my siblings. They have been at Brighton sec for quite a while and have never had something negative to say about the teachers or the learning. Every time they’ve come home from school they’ve had a funny thing to say and that has really warmed me up to going to school here. Last of all, the school is just an amazing environment in general. It has great facilities and staff, plus the students seem to have such a great attitude to going to school!

Horrible school, horrible principle. Some parents told me that the school used to be good with previous School principle. But since she left couple years ago it seems that the education has been sacrificed to profit.... It's good for international fee paying students. For domestics - you'll like it if you hate your child.

Use to go there in 2014 - 2015. I thought I loved it but looking back, the environment wasn't the best. And too much time is spent on worrying if I'm wearing the correct socks or if I dyed my hair red. You can't really be yourself. A lot of judgment there. Educational wise it's quick pased but I forgot a lot of things I learned there now.

Hated every minute of it, got asked to leave at the end of year 10 (2013) due to my "lack of intelligence" possibly affecting the ATAR score, best decision was leaving, Counsellor's are brilliant though!
