Bourkies Bake House

Story

BOURKIE’S BAKEHOUSE is a country style retail and wholesale bakery cafe. Established in 1989, the Woodend business specialises in Cakes, Breads, Pastries and beverages. The bakery is renowned for special occasion and old-fashioned cakes, and our multiple award-winning Vanilla Slice.

Eat-in and takeaway services are provided, with a steady daily trade in breakfasts, lunches and morning/afternoon teas. The business operates seven days a week and weekends are consistently busy.

An Animated Display featuring three bakers at work is a clear winner with children and other customers. It is part of our identity.

Bourkies is built on the belief that good quality products will not let competition from supermarkets and bread franchises upset business success and growth.

We serve traditional favourites but happily introduce more contemporary flavours to our menu, experiment with new products and allow customer preferences to guide us.

The bakery is air-conditioned and seats 38. Outside patrons are sheltered from the elements, with a clear blind not detracting from the outlook towards Mt Macedon. We cater for all types of functions.

Beautiful local bakeries that has stood the test of time. Pies are delicious, nothing fancy just quality ingredient and flavour that works. The famous vanilla slice will seal the deal of your experience with the bakery. Establishment is well maintained, clean and tidy. Must try.
Delicious pies, pastries and baked goods from this small town bakery. Genuine staff and service with a great seating area and wide selection. Pies were hot and fresh, and their dessert selections were delicious too. We will be back on our next visit in the area.
The best pies I've had soo far. I could actually taste the pepper in my beef and pepper pie. The coffee and deserts were great too. Will definitely visit again
Burkies is really sweet and has a broad range of goodies, so you're sure to find something you like. Their coffee is quite lovely with a range of different milks as well dairy, non-dairy, lactose-free. The store itself is incredibly cozy and family-oriented. It's a great place to eat on the holidays with your kids or your significant other. I highly recommend their blueberry muffins they have a lot of praise, or their vanilla slice. Both those items are renowned here. The customer service was quite warm and friendly too <3
Beautiful and yummy cakes and slices. Lots of options for bread and pies. Vegan pie was yummy. Would have loved if the spinach and ricotta was available egg-free. Staff was very helpful and courteous.
came highly recommended by the Charlie Bears Cubhouse around the corner. Excellent pies and cakes and a good afternoon uninterrupted while it poured outside.
Long queues and it takes about 5-10mins to get your order at the counter. I tried two pastries from here due to the popularity of the crowd. However, I'm not fancy about their pastry.
Lived up to expectations. Pie & pastie both on point and the sweets hit the spot. Has a great little area you can sit down both in and outside. Will defs go back when I'm in the area to try the milkshakes.
Sorry have to give one star to the dark cherry pie we gotten over the weekend. It taste absolutely disgusting. There is something not right with the crumble topping - it stinks, like the butter has gone rancid in a very bad way. Then I checked the ingredients, its made of margarine. Don't think margarine would taste this bad, maybe they used a very cheap one, or its expired. The crust underneath the crumble was stick, soft and terrible too. Cherry filing didn't taste great either. It's the worst pie i have had to date. Had bought also the lemon tart. Will try soon and give feedback on that So disappointed and it costs us $21.50, the most expensive item in there! Would have brought it back if we live closer. On a brighter note vanilla slice is really good, coffee not bad either.
Delightful bakery with a great selection of classics: lamingtons, coffee scrolls, vanilla slices, king johns, custard tarts, apple turnovers, danishes, pies, sausage rolls, pasties, and much much more! Popular bakery with locals and tourists alike. Staff were friendly and service was relatively quick given number of people. Highly recommend if you are in the area!
