Lovely hostel, pretty busy with groups and families but everyone is on the same vibe. Great areas to hang out and meet some cool people. Location is near grocery stores, the busier end of town and Three Sisters. The staff are helpful with tips about the local area and they have a sign in/out book if you're going on longer hikes. Central heating is great here in winter!
The common area is the crown jewel of this YHA accommodation - warm, lively, great sunlight. If you love big family energy, this place is for you. I could easily stay here the entire day. Plus - comfortable furniture and bedding all the way!
I was excited to stay at YHA, and overall, the hostel is great. My first night was actually amazing. I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm on Level 3 and was really satisfied with the room.nnThe next morning, I made a decision to extend my stay. Due to availability, I had to move to a 4-bed female dorm on Level 1, which cost more but felt like a downgrade. That floor feels quite rundown, the corridor is narrow, and my room was right next to the bathroom, which made it noisy. People were still loud even after 10 PM, which affected my sleep, and the soundproofing wasn’t great. On top of that, the shower pressure was extremely low.nnIf I had only stayed the first night, I would’ve given 5 stars. But unfortunately, sleep quality is everything, and what I experienced on the second night just doesn’t justify the price I paid. Overall, I’d rate my stay 2.5 stars.
We stayed here back in 2021.nThis place was a good price. It had:n- A cinema and games for the kidsn- A big, bright upstairs family room.nOne downside of our stay was that they threw out my $30 of fresh, organic, quality food. And apparently the lady on reception Wendy is not as she appears, throwing people out of the hostel if they dare complain.
great value for the price! the beds were comfortable and the location is convenient for exploring katoomba. other guests were friendly the atmosphere in the common spaces was very cozy. i didn’t end up using the kitchen but it was well equipped and looked clean.
