Thornleigh station to Hornsby station 10km one way, this is part of the great north walk. Takes 4.5 hours with 4 years old kid. Kid is ok not tired, adult end up with sour legs and feet. Moderate not hard track. Only a short of way with steep stairs. Most are flat ways with great view. Crossing the river/creek is most fun part.
Tough walk for beginners.nRecommend parking at Lockinvar Place and heading down to Fish Pond.nGoogle mapping Blue Gum walk will leave you at the top which is a harder walk up.
Awesome little trail, great for a day out. The walk itself is fairly easy - saw plenty of children and people of all types making their way through the bush. I like that it was fairly close to Hornsby train station, no car needed and plenty of spots to grab food once you’re finished and worked up an appetite!nnThe only downside is that it was fairly busy, so don’t expect a particularly silent or peaceful hike.
Blue Gum Walk is only 10 min walk from Hornsby train station. Walk is about 2 hour long. There are some steep stairs but nothing too crazy. You will be crossing the creek twice, don’t go right after heavy rain.nThere is plenty of parking spot and trail is well sign posted. Enjoy your hike!nnThere is a picnic spot right after the first descent with picnic table and benches. nn Hornsby Council website:nCreek crossings may be impassable following heavy rain events. If unsure check the Waitara Creek crossing near Ginger Meggs Park before starting your walk.
The Google drop point is actually a BIKE trail! You need to walk a bit further, 28 quarry road is the correct starting point. You will see a sign shows walking only and no bikes. Lucky there was a lovely lady who told us today, otherwise it would be dangerous for everyone. The walk is close to public transport and we found parking ok on week days. I tried to amend in Google map but no luck.
