Went to Blue Anchorage last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary with another couple. We haven't been there for a couple of years but it was always our go to place for a special night. The service and particularly the food was always exceptional. Not so anymore I'm sorry to say. Last night we experienced a restaurant that had absolutely nothing going for it. The place was virtually empty of customers which didn't lend itself to a good atmosphere. The outside area where we were seated was covered in leaves and didn't feel clean. The waitress who served us was very pleasant and helpful. However considering the amount of people that were in the restaurant we had to wait quite a while for our meal. Unfortunately when the meal arrived it was disappointing to say the least. My wife and one friend had seafood chowder. It had the cosistency of milk and contained seafood extender. I had a steak as did our other friend. Neither steak was cooked as requested and was very fatty. Very disappointed to say the least. We won't be back.
My mother and I went to the Blue Anchorage to celebrate our birthdays in a fancy restaurant. May as well went to the fish n chips place down the road. They would have had more of a selection on their menu. The overall experience was horrible. First the menu choice was extremely limited and then the service was absolutely dismal. Hardly any attention was paid to our table of seven celebrating adults. The waitress had to be summoned on a far few occasions then she served meals to the wrong tables The food was tasteless with a limited choice and the service was non-existant. A very poor experience
Had a Sunday lunch here. Great location on the beachfront. A reasonably good selection of wines on the list, including some alternative variety options. Staff were quite friendly and efficient, but it wasn't busy. Unfortunately, that's where the good elements stopped. The outdoor tables are showing some serious wear and tear and the table we were seated at was very wobbly. We had to stop our glasses from toppling over several times as the table moved around. A couple of strategically inserted wood screws would have been enough to fix the table, but maintenance is obviously not a priority. And disappointingly the food wasn't up to price expectations. Everything about the hot seafood platter special I had was soggy, including the salt & pepper squid which is my barometer for a good seafood chef - ideally it should be crisp, with some nice crunchy texture. There was nothing 'tempura' about the tempura prawns they were just average battered prawns and even the grilled coral trout was the soggiest piece of coral trout I've ever eaten. Nothing really wrong with it, just soggy textured. I didn't ask, but it smacks of being grilled from frozen. My husband had some fresh oysters and king prawns as part of his platter that were quite good, but everything cooked had a soggyness about it. The staff need training in restaurant etiquette as they started packing up tables around us and other later lunching customers at 2:00pm. All up a below par QLD dining experience for the prices paid which, as a recent expat South Australian, I'm coming to realise is the norm that QLDers are happy to accept.
We should have read reviews before choosing this restaurant. Service was slow the barista man was resentful we went to place order and told 'if you could just wait five minutes i will come and take your order. 30 mins later still no service we go inside a nd place our order another 30 mins and food arrives. Pancakes looked great but when turned over were BLACK that is plain disrespectful to your customers. To serve food you know is burnt then hide it. The view is great the cafe is NOT. Oh and no EFTPOS. they should sell the restaurant to professionals who know what they are doing.
Very pleasant lunch today with my calamari some of the best that I have had. Unfortunately my wife discovered a large rubber band in her salad. When pointed out the the staff there was silence; no comment; no apology. Not been one to make a fuss so intended to let it go, after all the food was good. However if they don't get feedback then their staff will go one treating customers that way.
Had a birthday lunch today with family. One family member asked for medium steak was blood red, another member asked for battered whiting and was given grilled , the steak wasnt replaced as it was taken out back and returned within 2 minutes after being we believe nuked , the fish was taken and returned which was not whiting which was originaly ordered more like NZ hoke , myself my squid was like rubber. The over all consensus review from the table of 9 was the food and the service was terrible. You would think a resturant with a small selection on the menu would be able to be get it right. Dont waist your time in our opinions.
Amazing food, great atmosphere - the dining area is spacious and not at all overcrowded. Their Moreton Bay Bugs were delicious, however quite expensive. Wait staff were friendly. There could perhaps be more variety on their menu.
Very friendly staff who were very welcoming. We had the salt & pepper squid salad and it was so fresh, healthy and delicious. Best of all it was a doggy friendly cafe with a beaut view! Recommend!
Used to eat here and the food and service was fantastic, but the past couple times left a bad taste in our mouths. This morning we decided we’d give them another try, benefit of the doubt sort of thing, we’ll we wish we hadn’t. We arrived and were seated satisfactorily enough, but that’s where the good service ended. “I’ll be back in 5 minutes to take your order” we were told. Well, 20 min later we were finally approached, but only to be told “you’ll have to come up to the counter to order cos we’re just too busy”. We looked around to see nearly two thirds of the tables empty and instantly started to worry that if this is what they call busy what are we in for. But we decided we were here now, so lets soldier on. After standing behind one other customer for 15 min as they ordered to what could only be described as the slowest restaurant counter staff I’ve witnessed, I finally had a chance to order. Ordering was an experience, not only did this person not know how many eggs were supposed to be on the breakfast for two platter, but they also seemed completely unfamiliar with the pricing or how long it’d take to receive our meal. I returned to my partner at our table who was rightfully concerned as to how long this process had taken, keep in mind we had already now been here for 35 minutes. Blue Anchorage would have to be thoroughly greatful for the location the restaurant occupies, and the view it has, cos without it we would’ve walked in and demanded a refund, because what followed was just downright poor management. It took another 15min to receive our coffees we’re now at 50 min Then it took another 30 min for our food to arrive 1 hour 20 min after we were seated. I fail to see how any restaurant/cafe intends to operate like this. Our experience was one of complete dissatisfaction. It even prompted me to leave a poor review here something I’ve never done before. It’s a shame, cos Blue Anchorage has the prime position along the waterfront, but management is failing to take advantage of it. Not only will we not be back, but we recommend others don’t waste their time.
I ordered one of mains & desserts. Main- beef+lamb+ prawns with mash/Dessert-gelati parfait sth. Beef cooked well as ordered but lamb burnt in the back, very dry & chewy. Ice creams alright, not too bad. But thinking their dishes r overpriced for menu you can easily grab in a casual pub with average quality. I don't really feel food in eatern states is expensive at all in general as I am from Perth. btw, the waitstaff were friendly.
