Bishop Sessa

About

Wine. Food. People. You’re so welcome.

Story

Founded by nose to tail chef Paul Cooper together with industry stalwart Erez Gordon, Bishop Sessa is a bistro and wine bar in the heart of Surry Hills, Sydney.

The Bishop Sessa menu showcases some of the best local produce available, with pork from Melanda Park, Swallow Rock Reach (NSW), lamb from Milly Hill, New England (NSW) and organic Wagyu from Gundooee Organics in Dunedoo (NSW). Sides of pig, beef and lamb are aged and butchered on the premises. Sustainable seafood and Cooper’s trademark desserts complete the experience.

Our wine list includes some fantastic lesser-known varietals and makers, together with big, bold classics.

We believe great food doesn't have to take a toll on the environment, and outstanding dining doesn't have to be expensive or stuffy. Some come join us, relax, and enjoy.

"A welcoming and stylish European-style wine bar. Choose between small and large plates complemented by a bottle of wine there are over 200 to choose from or simply pop in for a glass of wine and snack of cheese or charcuterie."

Great staff, great food. I have eaten here a few times over the years and most recently had their bottomless brunch on a Saturday. You certainly won't leave feeling hungry! Also, for the 2hr package you are able to choose from bubbles, white, rose, red or beer - and can switch it up throughout. This is rare for a bottomless brunch and you are usually tied to 1 type of wine. Absolute winner!
Good find!! Very intimate intimate location along the vibrant and resto bombarded crown street. Come on tues or wed for the awesome discount on the 5 course chef's menu. Tantalizing yet Subtle transition from entree to dessert! Must try !! Will come back!
Wouldn’t have expected this decent food from a wine bar!!!!! Everything was very delicious and right amount of flavour. Thank you.
Delicious modern Australian food with an exceptionally good value deal on Tuesday and Wednesday of $55 for 3 courses.
Had the degustation menu on a Friday afternoon for a large group. The food was very tasty. Food was a bit slow but it was a large group. Wines were nice. Portion sizes for all dishes were small. That's ok for most but I didn't go away full. Nice job done
Food was amazing. Cocktails and wine were great. Cant wait to go back.
I went here on a date night with my boyfriend and absolutely loved it. It is around the corner from my house, so super convenient for us. We got the Feed me menu with wines to match, loved every second of it. Got dishes we wouldn't usually order ourselves & loved them! Great value for money also. The staff are also super friendly. Will be coming back soon for sure.
Although I'm not a fan of sashimi it was very tasty. The aperol spritz was very yummy with grapefruit.
This is my favourite restaurant in Sydney. The food is amazing and the cocktails are dangerous. The staff here are incredible. They know their wine list sooo well. I recommend coming on Tuesdays or Wednesday for the 3 course for 50 dollars. Such good value.
Come for the wine, stay for food that will truly shine. The Bishop's ambience, reminiscent of nights wandering the streets of Paris, a buzz in the air and a wonderful atmosphere. It is rare for me these days to genuinely be excited about dishes we order, it is even rarer for me, to have no critiques on how the dish is put together. Yet, I experienced both at the Bishop, along with unique wines to compliment the meal. I would highly recommend for a finer dining experience, in a more casual, relaxed setting, with an ever evolving menu and a very reasonable price. Keep doing what you are doing. It is palate perfection.
