I was thinking of enrolling my daughter at BGHS and looked into this school. Impressed by all the extra curricula things they are involved in. Definitely enrolling her in Year 7.
Great school to be at! Hard working teachers, good HSC results and with the new facilities being developed and built , it will be even better!
Birrong Girls High School is actually such an incredible school. It has outstanding leaders and teachers who create rich opportunities for students to learn for life. It's the best education money can't buy. I love our school.
The toilet system is terrible, we have to walk the whole school area to get there. I was in a very urgent, I once asked the office teacher to used the front toilet because my classroom was near there, i’m pretty sure my face was absolutely pale bc my stomach felt like bursted but she still “nope, you gotta use the other toilet”. And I begged her intensely still, but of course she wouldn’t let me. However, not all teachers are bad but especially those office teachers, they won’t understand for your circumstance in any bit. Oh actually, my first day in school was bad as hell either ! They didn’t even let me join the class eventhough I had a permission paper that I was their student Looking forward to graduate.
It's bad for many reasons. 1.Disgusting toilets 2.No a/c summer is a torture in school 3.Strict uniform policy like they are so strict on socks like I don't know why because our long pants are gonna cover it up and what does a hanging scarf gonna do in math like how's is that gonna catch on fire in math. 4. The teachers takes forever to open the gates when it's home time like we do not want to be stuck in school after home time like no. 5. I am not sure why devices are banned like I understand why phone are not allowed but like can we please bring a laptop with us like BYOD bring your own devices. 6.They get so annoyed when we are late in class like there's a huge crowd in the hallway like how are we supposed to be on time with a large crowd in the hallway. 2 minutes is not enough to get in class especially when your next class is across the school. 7. It's overall just strict.
I attended this school for two years and the entire time, felt extremely uncomfortable. In 2022, I got racially bullied on the bus by two people, they were infact seniors. I was in year 8 at the time and these girls shoved google translate into my face and put it on speaker, it translated from english to japanese. They asked if i knew english and asked which grade i was in, i was extremely tolerant and did not report them nor talk back to them. However, i posted a photo of their faces on a snapchat story stating that the girls were being rude. The next day, i came into school and had been ganged up on as someone from their friend group had seen the story and spread it, i got into even more trouble than the racist girls despite me giving them my story. Ms George stated that it was my fault for posting their story, i do not recommend this school if you dont have thick skin. Most of the teachers are extremely racist and ngl ugly which makes it worse. Once it was very cold and one of the teachers turned off the heaters because she stated we were too comfortable and that the cold weather would wake us up. It was 5°. This school also has very strict rules when it comes ti uniforms, i remember we would be forced to stand in lines as the teachers checked if we had the "right socks", typical plain, white, crew socks. I do not understand this rule as almost every student wears pants and the pants cover the socks. We also get pulled out of class for wearing makeup or for having long nails, the school is controlling and when i see the school group photos i am reminded of little puppets that are controlled by the staff. Whenever one of the teachers are away or on vacation or something i see my friends celebrating, shows how they feel. Oh, and i got in trouble for throwing a piece of foil extremely far once. So, in conclusion: - staff are racist - extremely rude - they do not care about you. dont send your daughters here if u want them to keep their sanity.
I have so much things to say about how bad and terrible this school is. Most of the teachers work with the mindset of 'I can, you can't'. They have the audacity to tell you off for wearing a jumper during the winter when they are wearing puffer jackets themselves. Ms Caravas will tell you off about the unnecessary hair policy rule, screaming right at your face to tie up your hair, when she herself will come to school with her hair perfectly styled everyday. Instead of focsing our studies and trying to find a way to create the best environment for our studies, they focus on socks being above our ankles and the way we present ourselves. OUR REPUTATION WON'T GET BETTER JUST FROM OUR SOCKES, OUR REPUTATIONS IS ALREADY CORRUPTED, NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE SOCKES. IT WON'T GET BETTER. Adding on, the toilets are absolutely disgusting, the cleaners don't even seem to work at our school, and they lock the toilets during the day except for our lunch break. Like what is this? some students really need to go, and the teachers don't even care, they just tell you to wait, and if for some reason they let you go, there are at least 5 students in line trying to use the same bathroom that stinks. It won't be like this if we had separate bathrooms like what teachers have. LIKE CALM DOWN, ITS NOT LIKE US GOING TO THE BATHROOM WILL DECREASE YOUR WAGES. We also had several times during this year where our toilets were all clogged and the floor was filled with sewage water. Did they do anything? No. Of course they didn't care as they are not the ones using those bathrooms. During PE we have to change to our sports uniform under 20mins when there are 3 classes trying to use the bathroom, and teachers start screaming saying that we are so slow. Is this a jail? why do we have to listen to teachers screaming every day to us, acting like they could do any better. Teachers are racist, they have favourites and don't bother hiding it. Except for some good teachers like Ms Do, Ms Hakens, Ms Kat, Mrs G, none of them deserves to be gong around proud that they are teachers. NEVER SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS PRISION.
It's disgusting, bad and an unsafe environment to be in. Disgusting toilets, no air con so that students can suffer the heat, smelly areas, strict uniform policy since they are so strict on the socks length and overall just annoying and very strict.
I’m sorry but lately the school has just become downright uncomfortable to go to. Honestly , it is a breeding ground for racial discrimination targeted at POC students. The constant on edge feeling that you’ll get told to tuck in your hijab because is a hazard infringes on my ability to practice my religion. I don’t need non scarfed and non Muslim teachers telling me what to do with my Hijab. You don’t know the struggle nor how difficult it can be at times. Some girls feel uncomfortable in their scarfs and authorial figures that dictate what they should do with it and shouldn’t do that it’s it just drives that uncomfortableness further. I’m not complaining due to a general hate of school etc because I actually love to learn but this is purely discrimination. This honestly was my somewhat first taste of being profiled against and made to feel different. When i was told to tuck in my “dangly thing” it takes away from the value of my hijab and honestly when the deputy principal said that to my whole class I genuinely wanted to cry. Yet we had to comply because we’d get in trouble. Just like how people with curly hair are told to straighten their hair because it is deemed as “unprofessional” which is completely wrong, I shouldn’t be told what to do with my scarf. I completely understand it being hazardous in practical situations, but when girls are harassed that’s where I draw the line to defend it. Additionally , the direct suppression of my culture at school breaks my heart as well. When other students can wear their cultural clothing with pride for our school dance display, I feel happy for them. However my cultural clothing is deemed as “political” as stated by staff in the PE Staffroom. Also, the inappropriate behaviour from a particular teacher in the TAS Staffroom in displaying absolutely zero respect to students whatsoever, is absolutely disgusting. What’s even more sickening is when I was informed that one of the Prefect members was told off by the principal I forgot the reasoning and she began to speak to her in Arabic as if she is an import that doesn’t understand. I’m sorry but this behaviour is unprofessional and down right in humane. Now there are a lot of teachers that are genuinely interested and concerned with student wellbeing including Ms Zomaya, however for the one running the school and the few bad apples, their behaviour is absolutely disgusting and poisons true Birrong Girl culture. The additional disrespect office ladies display only to students is also disgusting. They are prepared to show parents some respect but when My sister , her friend and I asked kindly about trying on uniform and not having a supposed sheet, we were yelled at and humiliated. I understand these working positions are hard but you need to show some decent behaviour. Additionally, there is a particular math teacher who on duty harasses students to pick things up off the floor and demands the students to take rubbish from their table even if their intention was to do so. She will come to you numerous times and threaten you. It’s not the best explanation of the situation, however it’s an extremely uncomfortable one. Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, don’t send your daughters here because there is a very clear abuse of power and strict culture whereby there is a hyper fixiation on uniform rather on the students education. And to the department of education , you seriously need to investigate into this school because there are various areas that are a cause for concern.
This school is highly racist to poc, teachers using the hijab policy as an advantage to be Islamophobic, Birrong girls high school only cares about the schools reputation and the students appearance than education. The bathrooms are dirty. Teachers will find an excuse to give students detention. It’s a very scrict schoool Parents don’t send ur children here please
