Nice day out for fruit picking. Plenty of tasty varieties of apple to pick up. The experience was great. The lady serving us gave lots of information how they grow apples for harvest. The store was good with heaps of pies including apple pies, jams and chocolates. It is a great place to take the kids to show how fruits grow to value it.
Freshest baked goods I've had in a long time! They serve a range of freshly baked fruit pies, hot pies and cakes/slices. We had a hot apple pie with ice cream, apple crumble with cream, chicken and mushroom pie and beef and mushroom pie. 100% would have the apple crumble the next time I pass through Bilpin. There are a range of seasonal fruits for sale, with cherries, apples and watermelon when I went in January. They also sell a range of local souvenirs including Bilpin Apple Cider, Bilpin Apple Juice and honey.
Genuinely horrific experience. We went at about noon to the advertised strawberry picking. The ladies in the shop told us where to go so we walked down to the back, past the signs and open gates pointing us along, and queued up, only to be brusquely informed that we were too late it turns out some of the people in the queue were purchasing their pickings while others were also being turned away. We understood so we thanked them and walked out to a lady reprimanding us for not coming earlier. Now at this point I brushed it off as them feeling harried while having a busy day seeing as they were done before 12:30, it must have been a hectic morning. However my children four and two didn’t understand. The older was particularly distraught so he tearily asked if he could go to the strawberry greenhouse maybe 20m away from the entry and just take a look at the real life strawberry farm. I relayed this question to the ladies and was aggressively turned down; I was quite rudely informed that we were absolutely not permitted to go near it and the ladies then exchanged obvious looks of disbelief and disgust, muttering under their breath. They then made sure to watch us to make sure we didn’t go near it. Now at this point both my children were teary and I had to console them with promises of trying another time and asked if they would like to try the play equipment we’d walked past. The play equipment is dirty, in varying states of disrepair, clearly unmaintained and some was downright dangerous. I reluctantly let them play but quickly moved them into the shop when the younger one almost scratched himself on a rusty part. The apple pie was the proverbial cherry on top. The pastry was lacking - tasteless, low butter content, thin - and the filling was also bland - watery and not much of an apple aroma. The chicken pie was average but also didn’t seem to be made in store and also wasn’t the one we ordered. Overall, horrendous. Don’t waste your time here; there are much better places to explore in the area, with better pies, prettier grounds that are actually cared for, more fun equipment, more enjoyable experiences and - best of all - kinder people.
I am giving three stars because I was made fun of by one of your staff members, a rotund teenage boy riding around on a quad bike making rude comments about people as they walk by to the boy with the mullet who was supposed to be giving people directions at the entry of the picking shed. Being a chubster himself, he really shouldn’t be commenting on the size or appearance of others. We pre booked. My husband was sick he need’s dialysis daily so his feeling of wellness varies daily. He couldn’t attend and we couldn’t get a refund. No toilets or hand washing facilities near the orchards or picking sheds, which was real fun after rummaging through soil for the potatoes . Overall, the apples, strawberries, cucumbers, figs, capsicums and potatoes were great but not worth the $20 entry. $10 would be more appropriate. It’s definitely not the place I remember from my childhood years.
Seriously worst pie for me ever... Apple and apricot inside were raw and very sour. Not even marinated. Some part of the base is not cooked. $20 each. What a rip off.
Unbelievably great tasting Apple Pies - the pastry is baked perfectly and it is not too sweet. We will definitely visit again to buy more!
To start with, there is no washroom/ toilet near the fruit picking area, u cannot even wash your hand. Nearest toilet is next to cafe, at least 5 minutes walk in the sun from picking area. In addition, no bucket provided, only a tiny box that u have to purchase to fill for $10 same amount will be $2 outside. Not much strawberry to pick from and some visible worms crawling too. No obvious signs to inform u where is nectarine/ peach picking. Not sure where to go. Also very high grass to walk on Playground is dirty Doesnt worth the entry fee $20, especially after u see the worms u dont want to eat anymore.
It's a great one day trip you can plan, especially if you kids. They will love plucking the apples and tasting the. So we tried Granny Smith, Pink lady and red delicious and def the Pink lady was the winner. Red delicious were covered with snails : We were told we could find figs, but we couldn't. Back at the shop we bought the apple blueberry pie and it was delish. Piping hot and the crust was so crispy. We took the pie as take away and enjoyed it another park.
Staff at the fruit picking was so helpful! We came on a day where there was not much left but staff check on us to make sure we still had a good time and even told us where to go find strawberries. Excited to go back mid year when there are more fruits to offer!
We came a bit late and were not very successful getting anything nice to eat or a coffee. Just a tea and some dry bakery items.
