I have had takeaway dinner twice from here since arriving in Wanaka. It is wholesome food, home cooked meals, and a healthy option for takeaway. Choose small, medium or large. Choose one meat and between 4 - 6 sides depending on the size. I tried the chicken one night and meatballs the second night. Both were nice but the meatballs had no sauce served in the takeaway container so they were a bit dry and lacked flavour. Medium $21 portion was a bit too much for me but I'm not sure if small would be enough. Both times I got medium and thought I should have gone for small. It is a home cooked dinner away from home. If you want something healthy and tasty I can highly recommend this place!
Awesome restaurant selling a good variety of meats and other dishes. Love the concept of choosing your plate size first then filling it with food options. Lovely staff as well. Worth a lunch stop if you’re in the area.
This is place is great. Great vibe, friendly people and the food is absolutely delicious. You pick a size of plate and choose from the small buffet with quality food what to put on your plate. 6 scoops on a big plate, 5 on a medium. And it was yum. My husband took a big plate to share with our 2 young kids, I had a medium size. It was more than enough. I recommend coming over for dinner, serving from 17:00 on and onwards. During the day you have less options from the buffet bar.
Fun spot for lunch that tastes good and feels healthy. The main dish is one where you select a meat option and then add a few raw and cooked veggie options. I loved what I got beef with a side of eggplant, sweet potato, and broccoli salad. The flat white coffee was good as well. It was busy when we went and the place isn't big, so be prepared to share tables with other folks. Overall a nice place that I'd go to again.
Fantastic healthy food served quickly despite the crowds it attracts! I do suggest if you're in a rush, check the queue before committing as it gets very popular. All of the food was exquisite lots of vegan & vegetarian options.
Not to be missed when in Wanaka. Even better than expected. Real, delicious food made from the fine produce NZ has to offer. The beef cheeks and falafels are next level. Servings are very generous, the staff are friendly and the fit out of the restaurant is superb. They have thought of everything, including the free, help yourself sparkling water, saving money and waste from plastic bottles. It will be hard not to eat here every night we're in town.
We were looking for a place for dinner and was walking around the city to find a place. This place was quite busy most of the time with lines waiting for food. Most of the other places were busy so we opted to come back here to grab some takeaways. We were quite lucky when we came back because there were tables available so we decided to just eat there. You pick the size, look at the blackboard on the side of the counter, and the number of options for each size. We got the large one at $27 with 6 options. You get 1 protein meat and the rest are vegetables or salads. There was a fair selection of items and they all did look quite nice. I tried both the meatballs and the beef cheeks and both were amazing, particularly the beef cheeks. The vegetables and salads were also quite tasty. I really enjoyed the kumara gratin and the mejaddarah, spiced rice with lentils. Even with all the nice reviews, I didn't expect it to the that nice. The portion was actually quite decent too. The place was busy while we were there with lines the whole time. The tables did free up but got full quite quickly. They also did hot drinks like a cafe and did have special drinks like ginger hot chocolate. There was self-serve water on the side of the counter. The place did have a bit of seating inside and outside of the shop but it was mostly full the whole time so timing and luck are important if you were wanting to eat in.
Not a lot of atmosphere but the best food in the region can be found here! Excellent lamb meatballs, potatoes, carrots, lintels, and chickpeas salad. The deserts here should be purchased and eaten as well. Incredible. Good roast also.
Love this place! Located near the lake front and indoors and outdoor seatings can be very busy to get the seats. We had take away for the first time in Wānaka and loved it. So we tried it again on the way back from Lake Tekapo to Queenstown. Their chicken and beef are so tender and delicious. Great choice of healthy veggies and salad to choose from. They have three different portion sizes to choose depends on how hungry you are. Yes they have free still and sparkling water self served. Overall very happy and great Job Big Fig team!
Hearty meals fast. The food was really good and healthy, plenty of vegetarian options as well. You choose a plate size small - 4 options, medium - 5, large - 6 and then show which food you would like. You will need to stay in a queue and the place gets quite busy, but it’s worth it. Good drink options including wine as well.
