I decided to share my experience with Better Built after one year since completion to give my full and honest opinion. We commissioned Better Built BB to perform a complete tear-down of our old 1940's era original garage and construct new. The process was lengthy, which I can expect since this is major construction; but, our Sales Rep Larry took care of us and kept us updated with the process from start to finish. The garage, as it stands right this moment has lived up to our expectations and more! We have not had an issue with any component, the overhead door, opener, electrical system, gutters, soffit and facia, entry-door and hardware, window etc. have all performed flawlessly thus far. I had multiple garage companies come to obtain estimates, BB, while not the absolute cheapest estimate I received, included some features that created more value-per dollar than other company's estimates, some companies I could tell were very much trying to take advantage of me in their offer sheets. We feel that after one full year of using and enjoying our new garage we absolutely made the right choice in trusting BB to perform the work. I have included a few pictures to show some before, during and after construction. Thank you for doing a great job for us Better Built!
Back around March or so of this year 2019 I called BBG to put new siding and roofing on my home, as well as make a huge concrete patio 20'x32' and a custom 18'x26' workshop. I was stressed to the max because it was taking forever for this all to get done. I even took it out on them. But, seriously, it was the weather. We had the WORST spring in regards to RAIN than we've had in decades. The rain just seemed to never stop... day after day after day. It delayed the project over and over again. At any rate, once the rain stopped BBG completed the siding and roofing, and then poured the concrete for the patio and shop. The concrete work was second to none... simply the best. Then the carpentry crew came out the next week and built my custom workshop in two days. All in all I would say BBG did an incredible job on a pretty big project. I've attached a couple pictures... Yes, our puppy Biscuit thought he was the crew boss during the process!
My experience with Better Built Garages. They do NOT Manage their jobs, they just sell and hope for the best. We signed our contract on July 8th with Bert our salesman after getting some quotes from three other contractors. Better Built was the second highest of the quotes but due to them being in the area as well as the length of time they were in business we decided to use them. During the final review of the contract I asked Bert at least three times how long to complete and each of the times he stated “4-6 weeks depending on rain.” Knowing how things can go in construction I figured that meant my garage would be complete sometime around labor day. Little did I know it would take another 6 weeks Past that. The way they work is each step is done by another subcontractor and you will wait WEEKS between steps but nobody will tell you this. It took THREE WEEKS from the time of the tear-down to get concrete STARTED. That brings me to my other issue with this company….THEY DON’T MANAGE ANYONE. THEY WILL WAIT FOR YOU TO COMPLAIN. Be prepared to manage them at every step otherwise they just let their subs do whatever they see fit and move on. This is why they collect money up-front at each step, otherwise you wouldn’t pay them. During the contract phase I agreed to be charged extra to have the stone/Concrete wheeled up the driveway in order to protect it. They didn’t wheel the stone and BROKE my driveway. I only caught this due to my security cameras but when I first brought it up they tried to say everything was wheeled in. The part that was broken was supposed to be cut away as part of a longer apron that I had paid for but in the end, instead of a 16 foot apron I got a 14 foot apron 2 inches higher than my driveway and they smeared concrete over the asphalt that they had broken deeming that an acceptable repair. I mentioned this to Better Built, and again, they didn’t respond or care. The only time you will hear from them is when a check is due. Keep in mind they do not have anyone managing your project, its literally a stack of papers in an office that someone hands to the subcontractor. Nobody is reviewing the finished work. All their electrician had to do was install the outside lights, two inside, and some outlets. He was obviously in a big hurry since the caulk job on the outdoor lights was not only unprofessional, it was downright laughable see pictures. I brought this to the attention of Bert our salesman and he once again “Sent it to the office”. Guess what? I heard nothing back. Why? Because they already had their money. In the end I would say RUN don’t WALK from Better Built. Am I happy with my garage, kind-of. The experience of paying top dollar in order to manage the project myself just wasn’t worth it. At every step I couldn’t get excited because I knew I had to rush home and review that the work was correct before it became irreversible. In my opinion, Better Built is a sales organization. They sell you a Garage and then sell the jobs to the subs, at no time should you expect them to manage or otherwise supervise the work being performed.
