Dear Parents/Guardians
Welcome to the Belair Scout Group! You and your son/daughter are encouraged to join the Scouting Family at Belair for what I hope will be many happy years.
There are many exciting activities to participate in at local, national and international events, opportunities to achieve awards and heaps of new skills to learn. The options are literally far and wide reaching.
I know that your child will benefit from the fun and training that he/she will receive from the Leaders in the Belair Scout Group. You are also welcome to join in the fun; talk to me about the possibilities.
Please take an active interest in your child’s progress and award work and discuss any problems with your Joey/Cub/Scout or Venturer Leader or contact me directly. Leaders like to see parents at the hall, drop in anytime.
Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers are expected to wear full uniform to every meeting after their investiture unless otherwise notified by the Leader.
Your child is able to attend up to four section meetings, to see how much fun we have, before deciding whether Scouting is for them. You do not need to pay any money before then; however, Leaders will need contact details for you on the first night your child attends.
Before your child is Invested (please come along to witness this ceremony and to take photos – liaise with you Leader about when this will happen) we require you to complete and return a Youth Member Application form (YI) with payment of $75.00.
If you have any questions about Belair Scout Group or Scouting generally, please contact me. If I don’t know the answer, I will endeavour to find an answer for you.
Yours in Scouting
Nicola Capon
Group Leader
The mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.
This is achieved by
- involving them throughout their formative years in a non-formal educational process
- using a specific method that makes each individual the principal agent in his or her development as a self-reliant, supportive, responsible and committed person
- assisting them to establish a value system based upon spiritual, social and personal principles as expressed in the Promise and Law.
