Excellent. Don't tell me, show me: installations are set up to give an impression of the times past, the beach culture and achievements in sport. There are activities to keep little children occupied for a while. It is only open for a short period daily but staff, maybe volunteers, are always there to assist and they are great.
I have been here many times in my life. The place is amazing and I have full of many memories. It is really interesting to look at the stuff inside and it feels like an adventure when you look around the place as you move. It is really nice that they’re a different floor with different things. I remember a time where my school took me to this place twice and back then I thought this place was boring for a school tour, but now when I think about it it is really nice to know the wonderful history of the place. The staff here are full of knowledge and the Discovery Centre has fascinating information on local and national history. If you're in the area, it's well worth the visit, but beware of the limited opening hours. Great place to go with people and learn about the history in Glenelg. Full of the mystery of the history behind the place. I think the only reason we can think of to not visit the place is if you are not interested in history. We are in the process of development and it is nice to see the growth we have and see the change.
The Bay Discovery Centre is a wonderful Museum. It showcases the timeless and rich historic past of Glenelg and Adelaide. They have amazing videos, pictures, replicas and artifacts that shows the great past. It is very eerie and humbling, informative and sentimental self paced tour. The Museum is situated at the heart of the bustling Glenelg jetty, surrounded by the tram, cafes, restaurants, the beach, and kids park. It's easy access wheelchair friendly, has wonderful welcoming staff and volunteers. The halls are clean and bright, it has 3 levels. It has a kids corner where you can entertain the kids for a colouring in and a picture area. There is a donation box on the way to the 2nd floor. Elevators are available for people who need them. There are seats scattered inside the museum and guests are asked to look but not touch to preserve the authenticity of the artifacts. It's a medium sized museum, you can walk it in 15 minutes easily however remember it is a museum so take time to learn about the rich past which in one way or another has affected your future. A toilet is available however is not open due to Covid. The historical sections are spaced out so you don't feel cramp despite the size of the place, it has very high ceilings and well lighted despite having a few windows inside the 2nd and 3rd floors. It's Clean and well ventilated, no car parks available in the museum however you can park around the jetty area for a times one and free in the residential areas nearby.
The Bay Discovery Centre was some kind of museum which requires a gold coin donation. The whole area isn't very big, not too many exhibitions so it's easily done in 10 minutes. What I remembered was that it showcased some historical artefacts and uniforms of the olden days.
One of the better museums I’ve been to. And I’ve been to quite a few.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Thank you. You have a great interesting museum.
Great snapshot of the local maritime history. Museum was quite small but but very interesting. Staff were very friendly and the bloke we spoke to on front counter was really keen to answer all the Scouts questions.. just a pity there was no souvenir badges to buy!
What a fantastic learning resource! The staff are a wealth of knowledge and the Discovery Centre has fascinating information on local and national history. If you're in the area, it's well worth the visit, but beware of the limited opening hours.
The Bay Discovery Centre is both excellent artistic display and historical discovery hub for locals, nationals and international visitors alike. The open display centre downstairs provides access for creative art lovers and with easy, open and secure facilities. The museum on the first and second floor provides a step back in time to the first settlers, history of the local homes, commercial and industry that have gone into making Holdfast Bay what it is today. The centre also boasts Cityhall meeting space and public access for all with toilets as well. Definitely something not to be missed.
awesome place to get a lot of the local Glenelg nautical history and learn about how attitudes have evolved over the years. allow an hour or two if you must discover everything. perfect if your visiting the area and planning to get lunch and visit the beach anyway.
