Fantastic work by the whole team! Went in Friday evening and was triaged efficiently, tests run and treatments started. All the medical team had fantastic bedside manners and made me feel at ease when I had to stay in overnight. Food was great too!
I had excellent treatment in ED at Wonthaggi hospital when I broke my wrist on a Thursday evening. The doctor put it in plaster and he organised an appointment for me with a surgeon the next day and I was operated on in Melb where plaster was removed and my wrist was plated. Two weeks later bandages removed and I was told to see a physio to start to get movement and strength back in my wrist and hand. I rang the Physio dept at BCH to organise treatment but was told I had to submit my referral first to be triaged. My husband took it in for me the next day.nnTHREE weeks later I finally hear from BCH and then had to wait ANOTHER 3 weeks for an appointment for hand therapy .. a total of more than 8 weeks from the accident and 6 weeks after I was told by my surgeon to start therapy! It was really not acceptable.nnI therefore had to pay for private therapy for 3 weeks while I waited because I had no mobility or strength at all in my dominant hand. Not good enough BCH. It is so important to have OT as soon as surgeons instruct people to have it and I cannot understand why it took so long to not only hear back re an appointment but to then have another 3 week wait to actually GET a session.nnWhen I finally did get an appointment however, the time I spent with Danielle at the hospital was extremely beneficial and I am looking forward to my next session with her and getting help to have the strength in my hand returned to at least be able to pick up a cup or brush my hair.nnHonestly BCH I would have given 5 stars if it hadn't taken so long to get treatment.nnEmploy more physios and OTs as there is absolutely no point in having wonderful shiny new facilities at the hospital without enough staff to service the needs of people to help them return to normal activities after surgery.
I wouldn't take a sick animal to this place they would be dead before a doctor thought about seeing them. I cannot complain about reception or the triage nurse they were good, but the rest of our experience was dreadful. We took our Mother over to have a scan, as she had a fall had to go to emergency waited over 6 hours and still hadn't seen a doctor still sitting in the waiting room. They put out all the excuses under the sun we left at 12.00am as Mum was very tried being 89yrs old Still no doctor. No food or drink for those hours. We meet other people in the waiting room a lady who had high blood pressure and she was waiting over 7 hours, a girl in a wheelchair over nearly 6 1/2 hours. When the lady with high blood pressure came out from seeing a doctor she told us that nothing was happening in there all the doctors where standing around talking. Thank god that no one died. This hospital has not changed from years ago it is still the worst in Victoria a few bricks and paint have not changed the service. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING my device to anyone from the Island is turn left not right if you need help and go to Dandenong it will be quicker. Cannot rate this place as there are no minus stars far enough backwards. I had to put a star in otherwise I could not post this post. Don't think I'm recommending this hospital
Wow the emergency team at Wonthaggi hospital are really world class! The nurses and dr on call today in particular offered the best experience in a pretty crappy scenario with my dad and I'm ever so grateful.
What a Worst service as a Government funded Gippsland biggest hospital.nWe went to ED at 10:30 pm with my wife as she is suffering from badly pain on her ear canal. Triage nurse gave 2 tablet of Panadol and told us to wait. We are waited waited. After 2 hour asked again and said wait to be called.nI just want to say to BCH what hell is your service. We can buy heaps of Panadol and can take doz tablet just relief from pain at home. Just wasted our tax on building new hospital. Without patients services hospital is useless.nWhoever is managing the hospital just filling the pocket.
