Awesome Japanese izakaya with a great vibe — lively, warm and buzzing without being too loud. The food was excellent, full of bold and vibrant flavours, and everything we tried was spot on.nnReally good variety of Japanese drinks too, including sake, whisky and cocktails that pair well with the food. It’s the kind of place where you want to order a few dishes and share.nnService was friendly and efficient, and the whole place just feels well run.nnDefinitely a must-go if you’re in Hobart and enjoy Japanese food — one of those places you’d happily come back to.
Great venue, really well decked out, great vibe, guy behind the bar was very welcoming, food and drinks amazing. Love the dietary menu, heaps of vego options.nnHowever, the service. Two key issues:nn- for two days, we called six times, left two messages about a booking for Sunday night as online said nothing until 8:30pm. Could not get through. No one returned our calls. Took a chance, rocked up 7:30pm, seated no issue.n- host was pleasant, clearly not interested. Was not asked if we wanted another drink, if we wanted to order anything else. We ate and left.nnSmall changes would make a world of difference as the food and venue is 100% on the mark.
Great dining experience overall! Staff were polite and explained the food well. Nice atmosphere with perfect music volume—ideal for gatherings.nnFood exceeded expectations with minor flaws. Portions small and slightly pricey but acceptable—could be bigger.nnHighly recommend trying it. Looking forward to next time!
Before our trip to Hobart, we came across many reviews about Bar Wa and saw how popular it was, so we decided to give it a try. However, the overall experience was disappointing.nnThe food was average and not particularly outstanding. We ordered the wallaby skewers and chicken thigh yakitori, both of which were just okay. The okonomiyaki was slightly too salty.nnWe also ordered the tempura mako shark, but the order was missed and took quite a long time to be served. When it arrived, it tasted more like a regular fried dish rather than Japanese-style tempura with a light, thin coating.nnAs for the service, the timing between dishes could be improved. The intervals between each dish varied quite a lot, and some dishes took too long to arrive, which affected the overall dining experience and made us lose our appetite.
The ramen was so comforting and full of flavor, definitely one of the best Japanese meals we’ve had in a while. The broth was rich without being too heavy, the noodles were perfect and everything tasted super fresh. Really cozy vibe and lovely service too. We loved it so much we came back two days in a row
