Bancrofts Dry Cleaning Co. (Vic) Pty. Ltd. was established in 1913, and has been operated by the Bancroft family over four generations since inception.

In 1961, the Bancroft family occupied the present site in Toorak Road, South Yarra.

Importantly – Bancrofts was the first drycleaner in the Southern hemisphere to launch the new high technology “Green Earth®” cleaning process – which uses a form of silicone to clean garments and furnishings. The main customer benefits are softer, fresher garments – with no smell!

The Bancrofts store and operating plant are "state of the art". The most modern machinery and equipment has been installed for the benefit of you, our valued customer and our equally valued staff.

The store offers our customers a full range of services and operates seven days a week (excluding statutory holidays).

Consistently excellent service and very high quality. There’s a small premium to pay but I consider it great value considering the reliability, quality and service. Formal wear, work suits and my shirts have always been done to perfection and no nasty chemical smell or residue either. Recommended!
I took into Bancrofts a beautiful cream woollen jumper with leather buttons. I ruined the jumper as the buttons left several stains after hand washing. I thought there was little hope of removing these stains but Bancrofts performed magic & my jumper looks brand new. I am beyond thrilled. They told me they removed the leather buttons, removed the stains & then found the exact colour wool to sew the buttons back on the jumper. Now that is a professional dry cleaner. The icing on the cake is that the staff are all delightful to deal with. Thank you ….l am very appreciative of your outstanding service.
Two woollen sweaters, dry cleaned and repair holes in both. Clean good. Repairs good, but one not completely done as I requested. That's okay as will take to my local alterations business. Steve is a gem and has a great sense of humour. A request: Please provide a 2-person bench seat inside there's plenty of room, so that us mobility-challenged can catch one's breath! Thank you.
An outstanding service provided on all clothing articles I have ever given to Bancrofts. The genuine dedication to the industry by the management has brushed off on all of the employees, who seem so passionate about the service that they are providing. All of the staff have been friendly and have gone above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. It is refreshing to be welcomed by friendly staff who know what they are talking about and truly care! It took me many years to find a dry cleaner in Victoria who benefit and care about the environment. This commitment to sustainability is worth the premium pricing. Thank you Bancrofts and most notably the owner Nick, who has personally cared for my garments over many years. I would never trust anyone else. Cannot recommend highly enough!!
I travel 30min out of the way to use these guys and I have a dry cleaners 5minutes from my house. That says a lot about the service this lot provide.
I am a physician who recently moved from Toronto and was recommended Bancrofts by a colleague. I brought in a several thousand dollar bespoke suit to be cleaned and pressed. When I picked up the suit, I noticed that 2 buttons were broken. I than inspected the garment closer and realized that a further 2 buttons had been replaced. The replacement buttons were cheap plastic, did not match each other and were sewn on with a completely different color thread than the rest of the buttons on my suit. I immediately called Bancrofts and informed them. The mangers initial response was to explain that replacing broken buttons was a premium service that they offer. I than explained that Bancrofts were the ones who broke the buttons. Secondly, the suit has handmade buttonholes, took 3 fittings and has mother of pearl buttons that cannot easily be replaced. Lastly, they should have informed me that they damaged the garment in the first place. As the suit was made in Canada, I had to find a tailor in Melbourne to replace all the buttons with a matching set. While Bancrofts did pay for the new buttons, they did not refund me for laundering the garment. Apparently they consider breaking 4 buttons and inadequately pressing the suit an appropriate service. They do not offer a premium service and should not charge a premium price. The employees who actually service the garments have to insight into what they are laundering and as a result I would not bring any garment of value here. This was extremely disappointing and I was very disheartened by how different their service is compared to what they advertise.
I can only agree with previous reviewers that the service provided by Bancrofts is terrible, expensive and they should be avoided - unless you want to pay premium prices to have your clothes damaged. My wedding dress was "dry cleaned" by Bancrofts and was ruined. When I took it in, the dress had just had usual wear - no wine or grass stains. Firstly, they were asked to leave it on the hanger but instead they put it in a "preservation" box. When I took it out of the box, it looked like it had just been stuffed in there - maybe they had cleaned it, but it didn't appear clean and it was very creased. I wanted to sell the dress, and the re-seller would not accept it in that condition. Bancrofts would not provide a refund they had charged more than $500 for the one item. I should have just taken it elsewhere then. Unfortunately, I agreed for them to do it again - and the dress got marks on it that looked like large water stains - marks that weren't there to begin with! Then they did it again and sent it interstate where I was living by that stage. After a few months yellow stains came out in the dress. I had a buyer for the dress but only if I could get it cleaned. I then took it to another dry-cleaner who was very honest and said the stains were consistent with the dress not being properly cleaned originally but he could not salvage it by that stage. So, after all of that, it cost me hundreds of dollars to be left with a dress that I can not re-sell or even preserve. I considered taking it to small claims, but it was going to cost me even more $$ to get an independent dry cleaning report and I gave up. I have had delicate silk dresses beautifully cleaned by other dry cleaners at a fraction of the price. Go elsewhere!
I simply cannot recommend this company. Having been told by the company from whom I bought an expensive suede coat to only ever go to Bancrofts should it need cleaning, I duly did that a couple of years ago. It was the worst experience. I had to fight hard to get the person on duty to contact the manager to explain why my perfectly good coat was now a dish rag with the lining hanging several cms below the bottom edge of the coat and the colour black drastically greyed. Only by giving them a star can I post this, but I would not give them any. M Clifford
I would love to review the actual servicing of my garment but so far I can only review your customer service which is bad to non existent. I have attempted twice on email and left a message with one of your staff members to attend to my request for a specialty clean. Your staff member was nice and said that it was the bosses job to get back to me whoever that is. All that’s happened so far is that my two email messages with accompanying photographs of my garment and my message I left with your staff member have been completely ignored for the last fortnight. I will not attempt to contact you again.
