We spent our time absorbing the history of the Balmain Watch House, built in 1854 to house short-term prisoners. At one stage, it housed a policeman, his wife and 12 children!
It is now the home of the Balmain Association. The day we visited, we were surprised with the excellent exhibition TREES being held there, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Well worth the trip, especially to take in this historic part of Sydney. Go by bus - routes 442 and 443 from the CBD or by ferry to East Balmain, from which it is an enjoyable walk.

Beautiful old sandstone house,
great atmosphere. Ok to park in street, outside is good too - small front garden area and verandah

Very interesting old heritage house, it was being used as a gallery exhibition space.
