0 stars, Do not recommend. The schools staff is more preoccupied with getting the students to attend the school than what is happening once the students arrive. There were two lockdowns the last week my daughter attended, the school is not secured during the day. I have made multiple attempts to work with the school about our multiple ongoing complaints. My daughter was enrolled in October last year and we had hoped to finish her primary schooling at BSS. On enrolment I found out there was no canteen/tuck shop. I let staff know I could take on the role of coordinator due to my experience as a meals on wheels coordinator in NSW. I let staff know I would love to take on this roll but in a few weeks, once my daughter was settled in the new school. I was never approached for this. I have given up attempting to navigate issues with the school as there was also issues with my P&C membership. The P&C is doing their best but needs some assistance as there are parents willing to give their time and energy and it’s being dismissed because some of the members are behaving like students. The vice principal attempted to navigate my exclusion, which I assume is due to a past relationship with one of the committee members partners. I have not approached this man at all. I am embarrassed about the relationship. We knew each other 7 years ago. We have enrolled elsewhere and have also started a case with the department of education fnq. There are multiple staffing issues. The past term my daughter had 3 different teachers. I attempted to get the school involved in the state premiers reading challenge, I was willing to facilitate this as a volunteer. There was no interest in this from the school. One volunteer at the school showed my daughter videos on his personal phone of his cat being eaten by a snake which was traumatic for her. This occurred after she spoke about her pet coastal python who was older than her dying unexpectedly from a virus. The school has a lot of uneducated volunteers who are not following guidelines that I am required to follow while working with children in community settings. I would have thought school would be more strict on their child safety standards as there are multiple children to less adult supervision. Anyone can get a blue card and that being the only requirement to be around my daughter isn’t good enough for me, especially when the volunteers are getting their personal phones and photo galleries out around students. I would never have enrolled my daughter if I knew how little screening the adults in the school had and that the school isn’t secured from members of the public walking in and needing police removal.
A real credit to the educational authorities. Wide open playing grounds.. modern buildings. Very central in Cairns on the cnr of Mulgrave Road and McCoombe streets. Extemely busy intersection as it leads to the western bypass rd through the Freshwater area to Smithfield.
Have friends that are teachers here and they say it's a good place to work
Lovely staff. Office ladies are wonderful.
