Went to stay on Queens Birthday Holiday in June 2022 and reception of the people and staff was fantastic. The travelers are mostly young international travelers and are very friendly. Nice affordable price and the place is well looked after. You will get good prices if you book dorm rooms, as there is no point getting a private room if you want to mix with other travelers.
AVOID!!! Totally disgusting place only positive thing I can say it was near railway station to make my exit. I couldn’t stay there so left after seeing room. Private room poorly maintained and certainly NOT clean. Mould, fire alarm hanging off ceiling and common areas filthy. Other reviews can’t be genuine and it is a disgrace to represent Sydney in this fashion. Photos did not honestly represent what you see in real life. Shame on you!!! Will follow up with fire department as I felt it could be a death trap so many smokers and exits questionable.
Positive : Friendly staff, great location2min from train station , chilled atmosphere Negative : My room was like a sauna, only 1 window with nonairflow. Also full of coackroaches and spiders because there wasnt any insect nets. Had to walk down 2 floors to use a toilet. Shower had mold
Fake reviews are present according to staff that were hired to write them For the price its good tho, breakfast and 3x a week dinner options. Location is really good Many french and latino people. They do like to drink at night so if you wake up before the cleaning crew there’s a lot of alcohol bottles As with all of kings cross, roaches and rats. Staff was nice and helpfull

Its a pretty cheap hostel in a very good location, overall the place was clean, maybe a bit run down. But given the price, its a very good place to stayRooms: 4/5
I stayed at the original backpackers in a private room and it was a really great! It was exactly what I had anticipated from the website, great value & really central in the heart of one of the coolest areas of Sydney right next to the train station and in a funky neighbourhood. The staff were straightforwardly cool and offered advice when asked and there is a community of workers and travellers staying in the backpackers. I recommend it for an affordable stay in Sydney when you need to be in the heart of things and want the best price for your stay. It’s the best place to get a lay of the land if your coming to Sydney for work as I was or for pleasure!
The bed and bathroom was clean, and in good repair. The staff were helpful and friendly. I love this hostelRooms: 5/5
Avoid!!! We booked a 10 bed dorm in the ‘backpackers’ hostel and were put in a 6 bed dorm with 2 old men who had been living there for the last 3 months and treated the room awfully. The room very clearly hadn’t been cleaned by staff the whole time, everything was filthy and smelt like stale smoke. The pillows and mattresses were brown instead of white. We went to talk to the receptionist about cancelling our stay but as it was the end of his shift we had to wait till the next day. The common areas were filthy, people smoking inside, nothing seemed to be managed well or cleaned at all. We checked out 4 nights early after 1 night. Worst place I have ever stayed.
