We were on the long drive home from a visit up north, and my driver had the urge for a cool drink break. One to stop at Avenel Cafe. You can see from the street, it’s a tidy, well kept store, a perfectly good place to top up on snacks. But inside it’s a welcoming cafe and town hub. The owner advised me expertly on tea varieties, and made my driver an excellent coffee “milk shake” - served in the gorgeous traditional metal milkshake cup, but flavoured with fresh coffee from the espresso machine. We noticed lots of locals coming by, including kids, who were treated with respect, and as a result, behaved beautifully. Two nice tables to sit outside, and plenty of parking. We’ll go there again.

Worth going 2 blocks off the highway! The servo was packed so we rolled passed to this cafe for lunch. Good Coffee, Very Friendly, Surprisingly big variety, very Reasonably Priced!! We had great made to order sandwiches and burgers. Highly recommend!

Wonderful, friendly service. Great coffee and yummy food. Will definitely stop by again if ever travelling the Hume Freeway in the future!

Owner was very friendly and the breakfast sandwiches were great. Great bacon and best latte that I've had in Australia. If you want to eat like a.local this is the place. Not fancy but great food.
