I took my 3 year old kelpie to this practice. It was indicated to me that she had to be put on the table - so I lifted her on the table. I said to Doug clarke the vet that she may be snappy - she may need a muzzle - because she is nervous. This vet spoke rudely to me and said they did not supply muzzles. I was upset and disappointed at his condescending and rude manner. Later on the phone I was told that if I knew she bites I should put her in a muzzle and that am putting their staff at risk and treated like a negligent owner. My dog does not bight - has never bitten anyone in her life and is in fact timid in nature. However, I have owned working dogs all my life and know that they have the ability to snap if the get scared - having this knowledge, I did the right thing by warning the vet that my dog need a muzzle. I have NEVER been to a vet that doesnt have a muzzle ready if they need it!!! My dog has be going to this vet for a number of years and we have never been told to BYO muzzle - we dont own a muzzle because she doesnt wear on. She is highly socialised with people and other dogs and has never shown any sign of biting. Also, some vets madecide not to put a mauzzle on her and she is fine. The other point that I attempted to tell this man was that all dogs have the ability to snap or bite - it is their basic instinct - not all dogs are wearing a muzzle when they enter a veterinary practice - even though he suggested they did. When I spoke to him on the phone - he wasnt interested in the points I was trying to make - in fact refused to acknowledge them by accusing me of puttin ghis staff at risk by not muzzling my dog 1 he is the only vet I know that doesnt have a muzzle if required. 2 my dog does not need a muzzle so we dont have one 3 My dog is friendly and has no history of biting 4 I did not know his practice does not have a muzzles - so no need to be so rude by the way they do 5 I understand and agree that as a vet you should put a muzzle on dogs just in case as dogs are scared and vulnerable at this time. 6 I have never recieved such unfriendly, and rude service before - and no explanation. If you want people to bring a muzzle on the off chance their friendly and non-biting dog -bites: then LET THEM KNOW. Thank god I am now aware of him as I will be definately taking my animals to a kinder, more pleasant environment.
