We run self defence programs for children and adults. We teach the martial arts of Hapkido, Brazalian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and edged weapon awareness. 6 days

Story

At ASD we run self defence programs for children (2-12yrs) and adults (13yrs and older). We teach the Korean martial arts of Hapkido, Brazalian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and edged weapon awareness.

We provide numerous clases /week and are open 5 days a week.

At ASD we teaches you how to use leverage and the power of your opponent so that size, strength and age restrictions are reduced in your quest to win the struggle.

Locks , throws, takedowns, strikes, kicks and pressure points are all part of the ASD armoury.

ASD develops character improves fitness and teaches potentially lifesaving self defence techniques .

Our students report feeling less stressed, more confident and healthier as a result of our ASD courses.

ASD has such an amazing group of people; instructors, students, and the families involved with the school. I would recommend anyone of any age to at least trial this amazing club to give yourself the opportunity to see what you are missing out on. I have personally learnt so many amazing life skills and joining made me who i am today. I was 8 when i joined and being a student here for over 10 years has really shaped me mentally and physically into the person i want to be.
The best school I have trained at in 40 years of martial arts. Great adults program, great kids program. Hapkido is a very well rounded martial art with an answer for any physical confrontation in these uncertain times. You are never too old, the school caters for all ages with a teen competitive sparring team and BJJ for all ages. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.
The ASD BJJ program is very good. With a strong focus on technical excellence and safety & respect in training, it is an enjoyable and welcoming place to train. The gym is clean and the people welcoming. Travis brings in some of the best instructors in Australia and the world, and is always trying to develop and evolve the art within his school. Highly recommended.
Most innovative martial arts club in Canberra. I have a lot of respect for the crew at ASD; they continuously search out the best international and national instructors in a broad range of martial arts to inject new material, training methodologies and techniques into their syllabus. The schools kids program is exceptional. The adults program is very social, technical and safe. The school is friendly, with excellent facilities and a technical focus to all their training. After ten years of visiting and training with the school from interstate, I'm now proud to call it home.
ASD is excellent school for technique, fitness and friendliness. After trying a few local schools I found ASD and have trained here for over 10 years. The head instructor has immense knowledge of a broad range of martial arts, brings in some of the best experts for training and is always keen to learn new things. It's a very friendly atmosphere suitable for women, men and children. Students are encouraged and learn practical skills for their size with a huge array of different techniques taught. The school is also very focused on fitness and provides a great way to get and stay fit. If you are after a technical, physical and friendly school you won't find a better martial arts school than ASD.
An excellent school for both kids and adults! We went from planning to go a few times a week with the kids wanting to go almost every night as the instructors are exceptional. The club is very welcoming for beginners we were all first timers and I've also gone from never doing a martial art to absolutely loving it which is all down to the people there.
A great school for everyone, its own martial arts community. After living and training in most states in Australia I would have to say the ASD is the best school I have been to. Excellent culture, up to date training methods and the maintenance of high standards set this school apart from all others. From the moment you walk in the door you will feel at home. A friendly and professional school that has an excellent children's Hapkido and BJJ program, Adult Hapkido and BJJ, and Filipino arts. It is no fluke that the school is affiliated with some of the greats of the Australian Martial Arts community including Maestro Ray Floro, Professor John Will and Master Fari.
I trained with Trav and the team over 14 years ago. After returning to Canberra after a twelve year break I had no hesitation with enrolling my daughter in his school. The values and skills being taught here are values and skills for life. They help you and your family to be safe, valued members of the community. I recommend this school to everyone.
Wonderful instructors. My son has been with them since the age of 5. Travis and Sir Tony have been very supportive of my son's development both physically and mentally over all these years. I hope he we continue with his commitment through to his eventual black belt.
Great place to train. Friendly, knowledgeable instructors. Members are of every shape, size, skill and fitness level. Everyone is welcoming, respectful and supportive, and there are no big egos.
