Workers were all standing at the counter loudly chatting/gossiping. Almost walked out again, as it was so noisy. A worker also yelled out prices to another across the store. Perhaps some more training in customer service and appropriate behaviour at work is needed for the Thursday morning crew. That being said, this is the first time I have encountered this at your store.
I worked for the Red Cross for several months and left in disgust. They don't reinvest in their stores, which are old run-down buildings, with inadequate working facilities and cramped working conditions. There is no induction program or training for staff and volunteers, and the management is inept and inexperienced. They talk big about their appreciation of the volunteers, but offer no material/financial assistance for them, of which many depend on government welfare payments. This organisation is only concerned about "image" and profit
First time ever in this country, I have experienced such a rude & racist staff. I bought a few clothing items from this store today and I had to return a couple of items from my previous purchase. The lady over there did the whole calculation incorrectly and charged me $4 more. After sitting in my car, when I reconciled, I came to know about this error. I went back in and informed them about there error. The lady who did the billing did not accept her error and kept on telling me that she did the right calculation. There were 4 other staff there and all agreed to her while it was crystal clear that there was an error in the billing. I continued explaining my side not for the sake of money but just so they know their error and no other customer would need to face this kind of inconveniences. At the end, one by one all staff understood my point but they continued to support their staff member. The manager lady was also favoring their staff despite knowing that she was wrong. The manager even passed some racist comment on me and made it sound like Im there for money. They were very rude and racist throughout the whole time. At last the manager lady gave me $4 back which I put in the donation box right there and told them that it wasn't about money but about the clarification and accepting the error. Still while i was going out, they were blabbering bad about me. I do understand that it's a donation store and staff works there voluntarily but they need to understand that they are dealing with humans and hence they need to behave as humans. They need to know how to accept their errors when they are at fault. When I came to write my review here, I saw plenty of other negative reviews about this place which didn't surprise me at all. The management of Red Cross should be very careful while selecting their employees. Just because they are volunteers doesn't give them the right to be racist and insult the customers and call them greedy. I would never visit this store again and would never recommend this to anyone. Extremely awful experience.
A few things to point out here. A jacket that’s fake leather is priced at $245 is insanely ridiculous. A second hand watch, not a brand name, $375. Shameful. This is a second hand op shop and these prices are crazy. I can go to Myer and buy the same items cheaper and brand new. Corporate greed extends to these op shops in a big way. You can’t charge retail when your item is second hand and not worth anything. Red Cross more like double cross..
Over priced! And over heard someone asking if they had concessions for people on a low income who have no other option and have to shop at an op shop and they don’t...I thought they are a charity! Also the staff were rude and over charged by 40$ had to return to rectify the transaction
Don’t ever donate to any of the big charity shops ! they are businesses they make millions of dollars every year ..Google it.. they only keep 15% of donations , they deliberately destroy and throw out the rest of your donations … including books, beautiful children’s books , they could donate , they are instructed to rip covers and pages out..it’s heartbreaking.. Don’t believe me ..if you go to any local Red Cross etc. Have a look out the back in the skips and see what they regard as rubbish. They have a $16 million landfill costs, apparently because all the things that people donate are disgusting, dirty and unusable I can assure you this is not true But not only that but they now want the government to pay for this with tax payers money Remember the bushfires where 90 million dollars was donated???? They only used 30 million.. to those genuinely in need and kept the other 60 million.. for the future apparently..yet there are still people needing help today Or the recent floods ??? Or the $1000000 donated by the Property group Kevin Young to Red Cross in Brisbane to build a centre for homeless young people, only they kept the money and didn’t build it ..
I shop often at Red Cross, Hampstead Gardens. I am always happy with the service, the staff are always very pleasant and the items for sale are always well presented and well priced.
Very rude lady over pricing everything -I thought the red cross was there to help people buy affordable stuff . Doesn’t hurt to smile and be kind. The other staff seemed frightened of her. Won’t be going back.
Friendly staff, good items to purchase. Wish the clothes were sorted by size as it takes a while to look through clothes that you specifically want.
Great place to shop pricing is quite fair on most items, they have been helpful and accomodating every time I have been there.
