The museum has some genuinely rare and special exhibits. It's collection of preserved Australian birds is impressive, for example. I'm not a fan of its occasional mixing of natural history with anthropological objects, but this approach isn't taken too often thankfully. The building is a fine venue for an intriguing and worthwhile series of collections.
The Australian Museum is a heritage-listed museum located in the heart of Sydney CBDt, New South Wales, Australia. It is the oldest museum in Australia, with a diverse collections such as Nature, Culture, and Wildlife. Access is easy via public transport. 2 hours is enough for a typical visit and more you need if interested to investigate deep. A lot of interesting options for children. Highly recommended.
Went specifically for the Lego exhibit and became members. It's a fantastic museum of Natural history and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. There seems to be a great deal more exhibits from our last visit pre COVID and it's lovely to be back to explore and see new. Members lounge was also a great way to rest before we entered the Lego exhibit. Good coffee/hot chocolate machine and lots of variety of teas. Highly recommend.
Free entrance except for the shark display. It's an interesting place if you're into wildlife and nature. All of the exhibits here had descriptions and some even had touch and feel features. Especially loved the dino exhibit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Absolutely love this museum. The Sharks exhibition is 100% worth the money and has some great interactive displays as well as being hugely informative. The other exhibits were great, our favourite was Wild Planet. The cafe was nice. It was clean and the food was tasty, definitely Sydney prices but not ridiculous. The staff in the gift shop were particularly lovely and took great care to wrap the crystals we purchased. This was a birthday treat for both me and my child and it was everything we wanted, will definitely be revisiting when there are any new exhibits. Also as a queer person I really loved the Pride Sharks ‍
Great experience and extremely suitable for both children and adults. Our grand daughter was enthralled with the varying sections of the Museum and was also excited to see some displays which she was learning about at school. Fun and interactive displays also make for easy learning. Definitely worth a visit. %
Australia Museum is a heritage-listed and oldest museum in Australia. Go on a journey of learnings and discovering the exhibits here of dinosaurs, wild planet showcasing life on earth in its glorious diversity with over 400 animals. Great outing for everyone and its free admission.
Australian Museum has always been a family favourite, with so many wonderful displays and interactive features. The little children run around from huge dinosaur displays, to sit down science experiments. There's definitely a full day of exploring to be done here, best advice is be early and expect a long day.
Fantastic place to visit for holiday. The Australian Museum has free general entry although some specific shows do cost money. It's easy to go around and take your time to see everything.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I think the name is larger than what you actually see inside. It is small in terms or size despite the fact it was renovated recently and has little bearing on Australia's history or natural beauty. The instructions and pieces presentations are a little somehow unclear, I would like to see the standard chronicle presentation we have seen in other museums. Indigenous Corner is pretty small and contains a lot of inaccurate information and missing historical gaps especially during colonization, therefore it doesn't truly cover the stuff I was hoping to hear and see.
