Been here a few times with my family and we always love it. Feels very traditional, and has not changed much since when I went with my grandparents when I was much younger. Staff are always so respectful and nice and due to its smaller size you seating will feel very intimate which I really like. Good prices for what you’re getting and an array of options on the menu, both food and drinks.
Was craving Japanese food and discovered this spot on EatClub. It's not the best or most authentic Japanese food, but tastes good and is affordably priced even without the discount. The thin yakisoba are well flavoured and not too oily and full of veg. The tofu don is a bit boring but at least it's clean and relatively light with nice, sweet onions and an egg on top, in the traditional fashion. The nasu dengaku is a great addition to these two dishes.
We had a very enjoyable meal at Asakusa. Attentive staff in a warm and inviting space. So many standout dishes it's difficult to pick a favourite but the sushi & sashimi platter was particularly delicious and eye-catching. It must be said, the menu is a little overwhelming but the specials were affordable and helped guide our choices. We look forward to returning!
I used to live in Japan, and I ate out everyday. I was pleasantly surprised at how authentic the food was here. I ordered the sashimi platter, lobster roll and crab burger. The sashimi was fresh and very good quality / portions considering the price. The lobster roll was fantastic, especially good with the flamed salmon topping with Japanese mayonnaise. The crab burger was the highlight, lightly battered and fresh with the perfect accompaniment of pickled vegetables and crispy bun. My only regret is that I didn’t discover this place sooner. Prices very reasonable.
WOW just had the most disappointed dining experience. 3 of us waited here for a hour while the waitresses were busy with all kind of take-out orders. We felt completely left out, just hoping that the hotpot we were waiting for is worth the wait. The sad truth was that we’ve waited for a hour for a pot of tofu and cabbage and a plate of raw beef. That worth of $50 for 2 people, two drips of sauce which we really needed more of it when there isn’t any flavour in the beef or the hotpot. We wish we went with other restaurants, at least for $70 you can get a decent amount of food with some flavours. Rice were hard too!? I’m not sure how did you cooked this but it’s upsetting our stomach. Overall We really want to give a no for this ‘worth dining experience ‘.
We didn't take any photos unfortunately. The services of the lady was good but the food quality was far below expectations. The rice was quite hard and now fresh, sashimi wasn't fresh enough and portion is quite small. I don't see why there were so many good comments there but I probably won't go there again.
New owners/chef Jerry doing a great job improving this long, established Japanese restaurant. It's my local and I come here 3 or 4 times each month. Little by little improvements are being made. Decor, crockery, signage, general cleanliness etc. Service is great, very friendly and efficient by Alex, shandy and the others. Food is outstanding, especially Shashimi which is always very fresh and beautifully presented. Traditional dishes like sushi, agadashi tofu, tempura are all very good and supplimented by Jerry's imaginative specials. Keep improving Asakusa. We will keep coming to enjoy the experience.
Ordered: *temaki - simple, nice *takoyaki - taste is as expected *2 bowls of udon beef and seafood - beef was bland, seafood was ok Servers were running everywhere so lends to an atmosphere of hectic rushing. We sat down and ordered way before another couple yet they got their full plate of selected sushi and karage before we even got anything. Finally the temaki arrives then the couple gets two more dishes before the udon arrives! Not very happy with timing of food. Took about 30 mins for the temaki.
We have been going to this restaurant for many years. The maitre de is always welcoming and it's fun watching him expertly prepare the sushi. We have tried a range of dishes and found none wanting. Unlike one reviewer here we have found the sashimi very fresh indeed and we must have had it around 20 times. The atmosphere is intimate without the deafening noise you can get these days in bigger places. Staff can change and some are inevitably better than others, but generally we have found them co-operative and helpful. There are other Japanese places we have eaten at that are as good, but there is something homely about this one that makes the experience particularly pleasant, so we keep going back.
The food was average. The salmon was overcooked but the oyakodon was delicious. The place seems is a bit disorganised and understaffed, affecting customer service in the end with long waits to order and to have our meals on the table.
