The Art Gallery of South Australia is one of Adelaide’s most impressive cultural spaces, offering a beautifully curated mix of classical, contemporary, Indigenous, and international art in a calm, elegant setting. The galleries are spacious, well‑lit, and thoughtfully arranged, making it easy to explore everything from historic European works to bold modern installations. Staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, and the free entry plus frequent exhibitions make it a perfect spot for both quick visits and long, slow afternoons. The building itself is stunning, the atmosphere is peaceful, and the collection feels world‑class without being overwhelming — a must‑visit for anyone who enjoys art, culture, or simply a relaxing escape in the city.
Wonderful art gallery. Has a great selection of things. Really liked the abstract sculptures and the 6 and a half minute art video piece. A good way to spend 2 hours.nnThey have an amazing warhammer like sculpture to do with the Nazism and mcdonalds. If you know you know.
This is currently my favorite art gallery in Australia. The collections are amazing—full of detail, stories, and beautiful colors. The gallery is also quite big compared to others in different states. Would I recommend it? Yes, definitely.Visited January’26-latepost
I love art as much as the next person but maybe a little more as I am an artist myself. Please change up the place...the giant carcass needs to go...and the smell...WHY? It could be such a vibrant and inviting place...
Excellently curated collection!!nnPieces of art are paired with objects of significance. This is really refreshing to see and makes the works easier for all to engage with.nnThe gallery is a multi storey building which was annoying with a pram there was really only one way to navigate the gallery from start to finish. One section there is a small lift that needs to be operated by a staff member.nnEntry to all exhibits was completely free. We visited and the Tarnanthi Festival was on. Great exhibit of Aboriginal Australian art.nnNot much in the way of tactile or interactive art for kids but next to the gift shop there was a studio that invited participation that'd be great for kids.nnWe spent around 2 hours there.
