Story

Founded in 1881, the Art Gallery of South Australia is home to one of Australia's great art collections, housed in one of Adelaide's most beautiful buildings. Located at the heart of Adelaide's cultural boulevard, North Terrace, between the South Australian Museum and University of Adelaide.

Opening Hours
The Gallery is open daily 10am to 5pm (closed 25 December).

Admission
General admission to the Gallery is free. Charges apply for some exhibitions.

Parking
Parking is available opposite the Gallery in the Wilson’s Carpark on North Terrace.

The award-winning Art Gallery Food + Wine restaurant is open every day from 10am to 4.30pm. To make a booking call 08 8232 4366.

It has a collection of almost 45,000 works of art, making it the second largest state art collection in Australia after the National Gallery of Victoria.nnThe Gallery is renowned for its collections of Australian art, including indigenous Australian and colonial art, from about 1800 onwards. Really love how the art pieces are organized in their own unique ways! Did just recently visited the Art Galley of New South Wales and thought I would not need too much time here; could not be more wrong. Still really amazed by the collection and how the modern, classic, indigenous artworks intertwined in the space in the gallery. Should have reserved more time in this galley. Will definitely visit this again next time I visit the city.

This is a must visit for art lovers, excellent collection! The collection is bigger than expected and I spent approx 3-4 hours in the immersive experience. The cafe inside is great as well. I was surprise to note that this is a free entry. The entire staff is very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable.nnThere is a shop inside the gallery, where you can purchase related items and souvenirs

It is a wonderful art museum with a very interesting collection. There were several Rodin sculptures and a large section for aboriginal art. Not many people are there on a weekday afternoon, and you could spend 1-2 hours in this museum. It is free and in a lovely building. Definitely a must if you are in Adelaide city, great for families as our son really enjoyed the art.

Stepped in just to kill some time before my flight, left totally enchanted. Extraordinary curation, felt like the story told in each room was clear and interesting. Great selection of works, some truly fascinating, often presented next to other pieces that gave them another surprising context. They could teach some bigger galleries how to make art interesting.
