Art Gallery of New South Wales

The Art Gallery of NSW is a fascinating beautiful place to visit. The gallery frequently has national and international exhibitions. The current exhibition consists of 6 magnificent tapestries of The Lady and the Unicorn....generously on loan from France. The exhibitions are always beautifully curated. The permanent collections in the gallery are diverse and interesting works from Australia, Asia and Europe.

A beautiful place in a beautiful location. You can walk through the Royal Botanic Garden to reach this place and immerse yourself in some spectacular art works. From classic master pieces to modern contemporary work, it has a good collection. Some special exhibitions are ticketed but plenty of works in the free area as well. Some rest areas are also there to relax your tired legs. Escalators ease out the movement between different floors. Reach in the morning to catch the free guided tour that starts at 10.30 am.

The gallery is right beside the main busines district in some stunning park lands. The building itself is quite breathtaking as it stands alone and is very dramatic. The gallery has many free areas and paid exhibitions. The variety is fabulous, there is a lot of space for you to enjoy everything and a nice little Cafe on-site too....make sure you have a few hours to soak it all in here.

This art gallery is one my favourite in Australia- they recently (over the past few years) renovated the cafe which serves decent quality food and an outdoor deck with stunning views of the city. The exhibits are varied and the art gallery often hosts special exhibitions such as the Archibald. The standard art gallery has a spacious and relaxed vibe, I often spend many hours here.

I had a great time there tonight. It's very helpful opening late on Wednesdays. I'm traveling from oversea and my time is limited. I'm here for 21st Biennale of Sydney and want to see art as much as I can. I joined a free guided tour and our art gallery staff was really good at explaining. She explained what the contemporary art is in such a plain English and so everyone can understand. Her name was Anne. Thank you! Also I didn't use it but there is a free bus to domain car park, Martin Place, town Hall after 7pm on Wednesdays every 15mins. That's a great service. There are two cage and restaurants. One restaurant is fancy and it doe have a high rate and the other cafe is more casual and cheaper. I had a Aussie beef pie and salad at $14.00. It's not cheap but the gallery price. There's nothing to eat out near by so it was handy.
