The receptionists/ front desk ladies are absolutely delightful and so kind, I praise them for their work and kindness.nnDr Jamie on the other hand was rude and found to be very blunt, and did not execute an adequate examination on my pet in a situation of emergency. You would expect kindness and the owner of the pet be spoken to regarding the care, not the secondary support person to be the one he spoke to, assumingly due to the gender of the people. I would not recommend him for care of my pets, although this cannot be said for the other vets.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. If you value honesty and integrity from alleged professionals, DO NOT give in to their fear tactics and cheap money making trips. We took our cat in because she had vomited and was frothing at the mouth. So what turned out to be a bad hair ball episode turned into $1500 + $490 + god knows what else if we had let her stay overnight.nnThe nurses and admin and doctors all had conflicting stories about the status of my cat. The first thing they did WITHOUT OUR CONSENT was take her in for a $600 xray. Initially we got told that, without actually being shown the proof, that she had fluid in her lungs and had some sort of infection. Apparently she needed to be on an oxygen tank and IV drop to fight off the alleged pneumonia. They told us they were to charge for all of this and on top of that they “needed” to run more tests which we questioned when we realised this was turning into a money making slippery slope. They charge for every 12 hours your pet is there and conveniently enough, we were strongly implored to keep our cat there overnight despite her “not making any improvements” in the first 12 HOURS she was receiving treatment. We were repeatedly scared into keeping our cat there for 24 hours despite her breathing difficulties not getting any better.nnWe were also told about 5 hours in that the doctor would give us a call to update us. He never called. We waited and waited and he conveniently never called because the longer our cat is there, the more money they get. So we ended up calling and being told by the admin lady that our cat has made “no improvements” in the last 12 hours. I then posed the question “well if she hasn’t improved from this expensive treatment in the last 12 hours, what makes anyone think she will in the next ?”nnThe admin lady sounded flustered and told me that this was a question for the doctors and that he’d call us back. When he did, he tried to tell me that actually no there was a “miscommunication” and that the cat had improved but still couldn’t breathe 100%nnHere’s the thing about exotic shorthair cats, and pugs and Persians and any other flat faced animal… they don’t breathe on a good day. So this doctor was essentially trying to play me for a fool. I told him my cat doesn’t breathe well at base line and that this is what the rspca explained to me when I adopted her because of her genetics/breed. When I mentioned this to him, he became very accommodating and understanding and even nice about the fact that we wanted to come and pick her up before we got charged for the next 12 useless hours she’d have stayed there.nnBottom line: do not fall for it.
I understand that it was early morning and the clinic may have been short-staffed. However, I am particularly concerned about the approach taken by the attending veterinarian. My dog was vomiting multiple times before and during the wait, and when we were finally seen, the vet was unsure of the cause and suggested a blood test and imaging without providing any clear guidance or reassurance.nnAs a pet owner, I expected the veterinarian to not only suggest diagnostic tests but also offer immediate solutions to relieve my dog’s symptoms, which I had to specifically request. Furthermore, the medication prescribed only addressed the vomiting, and there was no consideration for the diarrhoea. This oversight led to my dog's condition worsening, as she eventually developed bloody diarrhoea.nnI subsequently took my dog to another hospital, where the attending vet was much more confident and provided a clear course of action. They took the time to guide me through the situation and help me understand the steps needed for my dog's recovery.nnI believe that, as a professional, the vet I saw at your clinic should have been more proactive and thorough in addressing the symptoms, especially in an emergency setting. Pet owners rely on veterinarians not only for their expertise but also for their ability to provide reassurance and clear direction during stressful situations. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unsupported.nnI hope that this feedback helps improve the quality of care at your clinic in the future. As it is 24/7 emergency hospital one of the main animals hospital inner west.
We brought our cat to ARH when she was having respiratory distress and staff there were very kind and caring.. Dr Emily was very knowledgeable, compassionate and took the time to explain things to us and answer all our questions. She also provided us with regular updates, and followed up on care. Could not fault the care we received here. Thank you
My little Tuppence became seriously ill on Boxing Day. Dr Mark and the team did everything to save his life. No human in hospital could have had more done to save them or be in better hands. Despite every possible treatment over the three days he fought to live, my beautiful little Tuppy passed away. Thank you to all who cared for my Tuppence. xx
