"We are a botanic garden of trees just 12 kilometres south of Devonport in Tasmania and only a one hour drive from Launceston. The Tasmanian Arboretum is a collection of trees of the temperate world in a beautiful and peaceful landscape. We are open every day of the year and the Tree Park Kiosk is open during the warmer months. We have the world's largest collection of Tasmanian living woody plants, Southern Hemisphere Conifers, and plants from northern hemisphere forests in an extensive park. We are possibly the best place in Tasmania to see Platypus in the wild. They can reliably be seen most days in Founder's Lake and at any time of the day. Around 80 local bird species are present."

Arboretum: botanical garden for trees I love trees in a major way and my husband surprised me for a visit here today for my birthday with our sons. We meandered around and I still feel like there was so much more to see! I took the membership flyer for next time too. We traveled all through Queensland before settling in Tasmania and didn’t see a single platypus despite going to so many places that said they lived there, and here we saw two just swimming around! It was such a fun surprise!! Bless the volunteers for maintaining the Arboretum and the kiosk. What a wonderful local resource!
My buddy and i came here as we had a bit of time before boarding an evening ferry back to Melbourne. Didn’t know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprise with the amount of Floras this place has to offer. Definitely well worth the visit, a big loop of walk, and if you’re lucky you might spot a resident Platypus who was very docile when we were there! There are light refreshements on the front counter. We finished the tour with awesome ice cream. And good memories back to the ferry. :
Wonderful 20 minute walk with lot of trees. Can get a view of platypus and we can have a kiosk with home made food. Plenty to spent an evening.
One of the best places to see Autunn colours in Tassie. Too late when we went. Next time will visit in October for mid spring bloom. Lovely place with trees from all continents. So well maintained. The ladies mom & daughter duo at the kiosk were so lovely. Their home made icecreams tasted real good too.
Such a beautiful place.... saw quite a few platypus...a credit to all the volunteers...Gaylene who was working at the kiosk on the day we visited was a breath of fresh air....extremely informative and a joy to chat with.. plus the homemade icecream was delicious.. keep up the good work.
Lovely place. Not too far from the ferry terminal. Good way to spend a few hours looking for the platypus.
We enjoyed an amazing visit to the Tasmanian Arboretum, one of the highlights of our 12 day tour, with delightful flora and fauna. A beautiful and peaceful place, and a wonderful sanctuary. Well done to your brilliant volunteers! The best $5 I’ve ever spent!
Beautiful garden. Spent 2 hours walking with the family and still didn't see all on offer. Platypus and Swan sightings definitely added to the enjoyment.
I love going here for a peaceful walk and taking bird photos it's where I come to relax, if your interested in trees there are many varieties from all over the world, even platypus are here as well.A kiosk is open certain times of the year when it's warmer.Plenty of parking, disabled access as well, bbq area also plenty of seating around the areas and a bird hide to watch the water birds.
It was a lovely time of year to visit as the trees were so colourful and it was very quiet. Staff at the kiosk were helpful.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
