Albany Senior High School

Story

Albany Senior High School is a state coeducational senior secondary school situated in North Harbour, Auckland, New Zealand.Opened in February 2009, it was New Zealand's first state senior secondary school, catering for students in Years 11 to 13 (ages 14 to 18) only; most New Zealand secondary schools traditionally cater for Years 9 to 13. As of, the school has a roll of students.HistoryAlbany Senior High School was established to cater for the population growth on Auckland's North Shore. It was the first new state secondary school to open in the area since Long Bay College in 1975.Before its construction, there were protracted disputes about the siting of the school which delayed the process, so that the school initially ran from the site of its sister school, Albany Junior High School.ClassesAll classes except those which require other resources take place in large open plan areas called 'Learning Commons'. These spaces enable flexibility when planning and delivering classes, including the ability to combine two classes into one for some activities, combining similar curriculum areas, such as physics and mathematics and easy access to technology. Students can utilize mobile devices such as laptops and cellphones to edit Google Docs in real-time together. Students are able to use Gchat in class to ask and answer questions, and students are permitted to perform searches on Google to answer teachers' questions. The teaching periods are 100 minutes long, twice the length of typical periods in New Zealand.

Pretty good school, good subject choices and teachers. However, when genuine problems are reported on, reviewers are forced to remove their reviews, and still were made to do services to the school to “mend their trust from damaging school reputation.” This is extremely disingenuous and a violation of the right of a student or any worker in this country thereof to protest and speak freely about their experiences. Suppression of free speech and press is practiced by the oppressive regimes of this world and students will not stand for it. Improve, take criticism, and respect the rights of your students, despite their age or status. Otherwise, the clear for-profit institution of the school system becomes even more obvious. We have rights, and we will enforce them en masse should the need present itself. Have to stress though, the majority of teachers I have met are nice and well meaning.
The schools alright, the subjects, really good if you want to study arts e.g Design, photography, fashion, Film ect however I just wish they’d stop removing students reviews. If we have something to say, instead of getting offended, make an effort to change. Other than that It’s good.
I am deeply disappointed with ASHS. Over the past few months, there has been a dramatic decline in his attendance, with nearly 50% drop compared to previous periods. Despite my efforts to address this concern, including emailing his teacher over a month ago, I have received no response. This lack of communication and responsiveness is unprofessional and unacceptable. Based on my interactions with the school management, It appears that there are personal biases or agendas influencing the school's decisions, as they have failed to acknowledge or address the serious decline in my son's attendance. Instead of focusing on the well-being of the students, the school seems preoccupied with other concerns. I also had previous concerns about their correspondence and bias in the past. The lack of timely intervention and support for my son's attendance issues reflects poorly on their commitment to the students welfare.
This school has many good qualities, however some of these qualities are undermined by the punishments that are inflicted when students post their opinions and feedback on the school, my peers were punished for this very reason, posting their opinions about the school and I find it disgusting. As a student of this school I have a right to criticize its facilities, programs and staff. Every day when I need to urinate, I enter the the unclean bathrooms with my peers to hold urinating contests and I will not cease this activity until the dictatorial facade of this school is addressed.
This school taught be very valuable lessons, the one thing I learnt from attending this school a couple of years ago was; You get in life what you give it.
singular worst experience of my life, horrible curriculum horrible class length horrible timetable, students doing meth in the bathroom. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy
I attended this school, Facilties are meh, the school is not built for high achieving students who need more structures. Teachers aren’t capable to give those students more guidance. There is no reward for early graduation or high grades, not even recognition by teachers. The bathrooms are okay, I’ve seen them quite messy but generally they are good. The resources are great, school as many tools and equipment for projects which really helps for their impact systems. The school boasts freedom for their students but really you have to jump through countless hoops to get what you requested, alternatively you can have freedom if you have a chronic or terminal illness. If you are a creative person this school so for you, if you are detailed oriented and prefer structure for success, perhaps consider somewhere else. If you are a parent reading this review, don’t be fooled by the open evenings, going to this school is a different experience obviously doesn’t mean this school is bad. It’s just not for everyone.
they are attempting to silence the people, freedom of speech is necessary in this country..... BRAVO!!!!
It's clean, the environment is calm and you're able to focus and get more work done as well as feeling like you have freedom and respect from your teachers. You're also allowed to just go to the bathroom, you don't need to ask for permission from your teachers which is a plus.
One of the best schools I have ever been to, I am guaranteed to have never finished level 3 without the amazing teachers and previous principal. The current principal is questionable and trying to make this wonderful unique well thought out school into a traditional school but I have left on time before too many changes were implemented and have yet to see what becomes of it. Would still highly recommend
