Saw a flyer in the nearby Isite and found they do trial flights where you fly the plane yourself with the instructor watching over. Best decision I have ever made! Hadn't been in a single plane for most of my life and didn't even know what it was like to be in one. The best way to spend the first time flying a plane in 10 years is by flying it myself!!! Crew were fantastic, comforting, patient etc. Went perfectly, I got to land and take off a Cessna 172.

I was super excited to visit NZ this winter and one reason was to see whales. I was nervous that I would pay a good amount of money yet not see any whales. Air Kaikoura staff made me feel comfortable from the start and when I express my desire and concerns about seeing whales they did their best to time our flight to ensure viewing some whales. It took about 15 minutes but I did indeed get the experience I was looking for and spotted two sperm whales. It was a great experience and they have a super staff.

Pilot Flight - I highly recommend it if you want to try to fly a fixed wing airplane. Their Eurofox a240 is small but very stable and maneuverable. Compare with other trail flight using Cessna 172, the smaller a240 offers better experience of flying and also better vision angel of cockpit. Just tell the experimented instructor what you want to do and he will show you the real fun of flying. Whale Watching Flight - Difference view angle from the Whale Watching Cruise. The jet catamaran can get more closer to the whale, but mostly 1/3 only of the whale on the water and it's not easy to know the other parts under water. When you have birdseye view in the sky, you can easily see the entire whale with its tail under water and know it is as long as a catamaran. Whale watching in the sky and on the sea are two different experiences, hard to say which one is better. The whale watching flight is deserved.

Fantastic views off the coast and with their knowledge of the whales and where to find them you get an amazing experience. The pilots were friendly and good value.

Awesome experience with these guys. True kiwi hospitality and a wonderful encounter with a sperm whale! Would highly recommend.
