Authentically African chakula that's hard to find in Brisbane. Deliciously soft and smooth ugali/fufu was proof of the passionate hard work that went into making it. Available in both maize and banana, it soaked up the hearty stews perfectly. The spicy flavoured ugusi was a favourite for the adults, as was the milder beef stew for the kids. The fried Talapia brought back memories of Lake Victoria, which matched the beautiful African art that filled the walls. Service was friendly and fast. We will definitely be back for more homestyle cooking.
The owner was extremely RUDE to me!nI walked into the restaurant and ordered vegetables stew but I was served beef stew, I kindly spoke to the staff saying that I ordered vegetables stew not beef stew, to which she went and told the owner. The owner came out with an angry expression on her face and slammed the order paper on the table where I was sitting,nsaying how could her staff make a mistake of writing the wrong order and she doesn’t believe me maybe I made a mistake of ordering beef stew instead of vegetables stew. I was very stocked as she has beennfriendly other times I was there. I could understand if she was having a bad day but money doesn’t grow on trees I work hard for my money as well. I explained to her that I didn’t make a mistake, I know what I ordered. I ordered vegetable stew I was even pointing at it when I was ordering then she really insisted that it was my mistake and she will not make the vegetable stew that I will have to eat the beef stew. If I want the vegetables stew I will have to pay extra money. I said I Will not pay for the things that I didn’t order. I wish I was recording this. She went to the kitchen without being asked and packed the beef stew in a container and said I can take it home.nI was very upset. I had my rice that I ordered and left the beef stew on the table. As a owner I expected more than this, I was a regular customer but I can’t even think of going back. Still can’t believe it until this day. She needs to understand she works hard for her money we work hard for our money as well!
The food is phenomenal , however, I think they should cater to people who don't eat Chili as well, most of the food has a lot of chillies and I understand that it is a West African Restaurant but there are other Africans who Don't eat chilli at all. If they could work on changing that it would be good. Give the customers options to choose whether they want chili in their food or not
Phenomenal customer service, front desk staff was so friendly and welcoming. But what a disappointment, I was happy until I opened my food. Chicken was so dry I think it was cooked the night before same with the beef pieces. I had a spicy chicken stew as well which was really good tho but unfortunately the biggest disappointment was the jollof rice, it didn’t taste like jollof rice fr, that’s all I can say.
We can’t give this place a proper rating because we were just experimenting and wanting to try traditional African food for the first time.nnBut it was very nice and clean. Service was prompt. We wish we had a bit more guidance but what we got was great!nnIf you’re tossing between the corn and plantain fufu, we would recommend the plantain one. It has a much more supple and stretchy texture as opposed to the corn one - this resembled a more dry and sticky mash.
